Deadly Daniel can steer Fairlop to big things

I’m not a fan of the January transfer window. I’ve turned into a bit of a mad man, hitting the refresh button on my phone virtually every five minutes since Liverpool sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. Not only that, but I’ve also been waking up in cold sweats hoping Jurgen Klopp has signed a decent replacement.

But the madness has not just been limited to the Premier League or La Liga for that matter.

I recall that there were shock waves when MGBSFL new boys Fairlop FC signed former Player of the Year Ryan Cole last summer. Well they have done it again. Aaron Dias has raided neighbours Redbridge Jewish Care once again, this time recruiting Daniel Garfinkle, who is one of the fastest players in the league.

A delighted Dias told me: “The club record transfer fee has been broken for an eighth time this season. After a long, hard and tough negotiation process, which left the management team in sweats, we have managed to secure the signing of Daniel.

“He has lots of experience within this league and we look forward to him scoring lots of goals for us.”

Dias also confirmed that goalkeeper Scott Shear has left the club which currently lies in seventh place in Division Two.

The east London club will be looking to make another statement when they travel to Rowley Lane to take on Maccabi London Lions Masters in the Peter Morrison Trophy on Sunday.

The Lions are still challenging on four fronts and feature the likes of Lee Cash, Paul Lenchner, Craig Pearl, Andy Myers and Guy Morris in their ranks.

Looking ahead to the game, Fairlop captain Bradley Gayer commented: “It’s the biggest game in the club’s history. We beat Hendon United comfortably earlier in the competition, so this will just be another hurdle to overcome in our first season as we look to bring silverware to the club.”
