Rosh Hashanah fig and vanilla apple crumble

Seasonal figs make this simple dessert perfect for festive meals

This deliciously simple fruity dessert is perfect for Rosh Hashanah. Easy to make, you can prepare it in advance and freeze it and all you’ll need to do over the festive season is defrost it overnight in the fridge and pop it in the oven.

Ingredients

For the crumble topping:
200g plain flour
250g butter or margarine, cold
200g oats
150g demerara sugar
2 tbsp vanilla sugar
For the fruit compote:
8 large figs: 6 for the filling / 2 for decoration, washed and sliced
4 large dessert apples (I used Jazz) washed, peeled, cored and cut in medium slices
250g fig jam
Mint leaves for decoration (optional)
