A senior Jewish White House policy adviser is reportedly being considered as Donald Trump’s next communications director.

Media reports in the US suggest Stephen Miller could be the long-term replacement for Anthony Scaramucci, who left the role last week days after being appointed.

From a liberal Jewish family in Santa Monica, California, Mr Miller is an ally of Steve Bannon, Mr Trump’s chief stategist.

He is popular in right-wing circles and is seen as an ally of the president on immigration.

Mr Miller supports Mr Bannon’s economic outlook and helped write Mr Trump’s inaugural speech which focused on the “America First” policy.

On Wednesday, Mr Miller was involved in controversial scenes with journalists about a poem on a plaque on the Statue of Liberty which refers to the “huddled masses” and is seen as a beacon of the United States’ welcome to immigrants.

The strategist claimed the poem had been added to the statue at a later date and was not part of the original intention for the statue.

In his 30s, Mr Miller was repeatedly seen as one of the leading public faces of the Trump election campaign, often leading rallies before the now president appeared on stage.

He was previously communications director for Attorney General Jeff Sessions when Mr Sessions was a senator in Alabama.
