The Duke of Cambridge’s historic Middle East tour has begun with visits to cultural and business sites in Jordan before he moves on to Israel and Palestine later in the week.
His trip began with an event meeting young entrepreneurs working with advanced technology in the country's capital Amman.
The duke, who is president of the Football Association and a keen fan of Aston Villa, spent much of the day avoiding the scoreline of England’s World Cup group stage game against Panama.
He made the journalists in his entourage promise not to tell him the result because he had made arrangements to watch the match with Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein.
Prince William couldn't watch the @England match live and avoided finding out the score all afternoon. He sat down with the Crown Prince of Jordan to watch a rerun after dinner at the Beit Al Urdun Palace.

Kensington Palace later tweeted images of the duke and crown prince sitting side-by-side as they watched the game on a large screen at the Beit Al Urdun Palace in Amman.
Monday will see the duke visit the Roman ruins in the historic city of Jerash, as well as trips to an arts facility and the Al Quds vocational training college.
He will then inspect two Jordanian air ambulance helicopters before flying to Tel Aviv in the evening, becoming the first senior royal to visit Israel on behalf of the government.
