The Israeli military has now called up 40,000 reservists, on the understanding that a land strike may be imminent. Air and sea strikes were launched early Tuesday morning as part of Operation Protection Edge, a counter-offensive against Hamas.
Both Eilat airport and Herzliya’s Sde Dov airport, north of Tel Aviv, cancelled all scheduled flights.
Meanwhile, a group of suspected Hamas terrorists attempted to infiltrate Israel near Zikim, north of Gaza. An IDF unit was reportedly engaged in a firefight, with some reports suggesting two terrorists had been killed.
