A Jewish passenger who ordered a kosher meal on an Iberia flight received his meal with the words "free Palestine" written on the packaging, according to the organisation representing Argentina’s Jewish community.
Salvador Auday was en route from Buenos Aires to Madrid at the time of the incident. Meals served to other customers were also said to have had "FP" written on them, per a complaint from the Delegation of Argentine Jewish Associations (DAIA).
Speaking to Argentine-Jewish newspaper Vis á Vis, Auday said: “I reported the incident to the head flight attendant, who took down the complaint, took photos, etc. They tried to apologise in every possible way.
“Apparently, it wasn’t any of the crew members, so if it came from outside, I’d imagine that Iberia will conduct an internal investigation of its suppliers and procedures. That’s precisely why I reported it, so that it doesn’t get forgotten."
DAIA added in a post on X: “We condemn this discriminatory act and have contacted the airline’s authorities to demand explanations and immediate action."
Likewise, Argentina's Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said it was “deeply concerned”. by the “disturbing report". and called for an immediate investigation.
The airline said on Tuesday that it had opened an investigation into the incident.
In a statement, it said: “The Iberia crew documented the incident and took action to assist those affected. The captain personally approached them to apologise on behalf of the airline."
It went on to say it “categorically rejects any form of discrimination, incitement to hatred, or behaviour that undermines the dignity of individuals”.
