A 16-year-old Australian boy has been charged for threatening to kill a Jewish boy and his mother, after viral footage earlier this month showed him forcing the boy to kiss another classmate’s shoes.

Police said they had charged the boy with making threats to kill, using a telecommunication device to harass and stalking. He will appear in a children’s court in Victoria next month.

The victim was lured to a park under the pretences of a football game, before being coerced into kissing the feet of one of the boys. The incident was filmed and posted on Instagram.

Speaking to the Australian Jewish News, the boy's mother said what followed was months of being subjected to antisemitic slurs, including “Jewish ape”, “Jewish n****r” and “Jewish gimp”.

He was followed home from school and physically assaulted in school.

The mother said: “He literally fell down on the floor and said, ‘Mummy, you shouldn't love me. I'm a worthless, Jewish rodent. I'm vermin’.”

“The words 'you dirty Jew' and 'Jewish cockroach', they are such clichés,” she added.

“I grew up with Holocaust survivors, I used to go to synagogue with my uncle who was a Holocaust survivor and those were the words, literally, he was taunted with when he was five.”

She also told the Daily Mail she was threatened over the phone on Yom Kippur.

“Whilst I sat in synagogue... I missed three calls by a private number,” she said.

“We got home, started settling for the night. A private number came up and I answered the phone.

“For the next three hours I was subjected to threats of home invasion, being bashed, my son being bashed and silenced for good.

“The worst part was being called a Jewish dog and Jewish c***.”
