Fifty Jewish organisations meet Israeli diplomats to argue against annexation

Representatives met in 18 consulates and embassies across the world

A coalition of progressive Jewish organisations has met Israeli diplomats to discuss the apparently imminent plans for annexation of parts of the West Bank.

The group of 50 Jewish organisations including Yachad UK and Meretz UK sent representatives to 18 consulates and embassies across the globe to present an anti-annexation message.

The coalition, known as J-Link, was formed earlier this year, and consists of Jewish groups from the Americas, Europe and Oceania.

Kenneth Bob, president of Ameinu, a north American Zionist organisation, told Haaretz that “we had local leaders in the Jewish community reach out to their contacts in the diplomatic missions and ask for meetings to present their case.”

However, Mr Bob said three envoys including ambassador to the US Ron Dermer – all of whom were appointees of Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu – “didn’t have time to meet”.

The group instead met Dani Dayan, Israel’s consul general in New York. Similar meetings took place in Israeli consulates in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco, as well as Berlin, Paris, Madrid and Copenhagen.

Those who did meet them admitted “they’re completely in the dark and have no clue what’s going to happen”, according to Mr Bob.
