A trio of prominent pro-Palestinian activists were arrested in the early part of this week following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police into allegations of antisemitism.
Paediatrician Ellen Kriesels and trainee doctor Rahmeh Aladwan, both of whom are currently suspended from their practises, were detained by police and taken in for questioning, as was a third suspect, whom the JC also understands to be a medic and vocal Israel critic.
Kriesels, who is a safeguarding lead at the Wellington Hospital in London was arrested on Saturday due to two separate "allegedly antisemitic" tweets, neither of which now appear on X.
After being questioned under caution at Islington Police Station, she was released on bail and welcomed by a crowd of pro-Palestine protesters who had gathered outside to call for her release.
Waving Palestinian flags, they were seen on camera chanting "release Dr Ellen now".
Kriesels spoke on a microphone to the crowd, thanking those present at the protest. "(I) really, really appreciate it," she said, adding: "I can't really say too much now but I will say more later."
A protester told Kriesels: "You make us proud to be your colleagues. You stand up for humanity when you stand against genocide. This is what every single doctor in the UK should be doing."
A Met spokesman told the JC: “On Saturday, officers arrested a 53-year-old woman in Camden on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred." This suspect was questioned and also released on bail.
On Sunday, the other arrest was made, with the Met saying: “On Sunday, officers arrested a 48-year-old woman in Leyton on suspicion of the same offence."
The Met said that both Kriesels' and the other suspect’s arrests "relate to the posting of alleged antisemitic material on social media".
Aladwan, who is a trainee in Trauma and Orthopaedics was arrested on Monday at an address in South Gloucestershire. This was due to an alleged breach of bail conditions, which were imposed on her on December 4 following a previous arrest over allegedly antisemitic statements.
She wrote on social media on Monday: "I was arrested this morning for the third time for X posts. I have just been released. I can't say more at the moment."
The Met said: “On Monday, 22 December officers arrested a 31-year-old woman at an address in South Gloucestershire for allegedly breaching bail conditions imposed following a previous arrest on Thursday, 4 December.
"That arrest was on suspicion of misusing a public communications network and stirring up racial hatred.
“The alleged breaches relate to posts on social media in the period since her release."
She has again been released on bail.
All three cases are "pending further enquiries", according to the Met.
