YouTube talkshow host Piers Morgan has repeated the longstanding conspiracy theory that Jeffrey Epstein worked for Mossad.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Morgan suggested that the rumours about Epstein working for foreign intelligence services could all be true.
“It would not surprise me if he turned out to be a Mossad agent, because he was up to his neck in it with [former Israeli PM] Ehud Barak and others. But also potentially doing stuff with the Russians,” he said.
Conspiracy theories have swirled around Epstein for years – that he worked for Israeli intelligence, that he was “Israel’s greatest ally,” and that his crimes were “inspired by the Talmud”.
Those theories were boosted by the release of the Epstein files – documents compiled by investigators on the late sexual predator and financier which shed light on his global network of powerful acquaintances.
The Mossad is mentioned repeatedly in the files – as is the CIA, Mi6 and the KGB. Nearly all mentions of the agencies are news reports that Epstein received via email, Times of Israel reported.
Israel is mentioned in the millions of files, but fewer times than countries including Russia, China, Canada and France.
In one email, after being invited to Israel, Epstein rejected the invite, saying, “I do not like Israel. AT ALL.”
Mossad is mentioned in some of Epstein’s personal correspondence, without evidence that he worked for the intelligence agency.
Epstein was friendly with former prime minister Ehud Barak, meeting with him dozens of times, which was known years ago.
In 2018, while discussing a meeting via email, Epstein told Barak, “You should make clear that I don’t work for Mossad,” followed by a smiley face. Rumours of Epstein’s connections to Israeli intelligence started at around the same time.
There is no evidence of any wrongdoing by Barak in his relationship with Epstein. An audio recording of a conversation between Epstein and Barak that was more than three hours long was entirely banal.
Another email, citing an anonymous tipster to the FBI, said the source had been “convinced that Epstein was a co-opted Mossad agent,” without any further information.
Speaking at a summit last year, long before the release of the Epstein files, right-wing political activist Tucker Carlson said that Epstein was working for a “foreign government”.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Morgan said he once met Ghislaine Maxwell – later convicted of sex-trafficking in association with Epstein – at a book launch, but he never came across Epstein himself.
“I think he was a very, very evil person, and we don’t know the half of it yet. He was a gangster. I think with a lot of these pictures, he was filming and photographing people for kompromat,” he said.
“Putin’s name pops up all over the place. Were they using him to compromise a lot of high-profile Americans? He could easily have been simultaneously an agent for Mossad and for the Russians. Every conspiracy on this could be true.”
Speaking about Britain’s former US ambassador Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Epstein, Morgan said: “This is the biggest political scandal and the biggest royal scandal in my lifetime. I actually think Mandelson is worse than [John] Profumo, who was a decent man, everybody acknowledged that.
"Mandelson is like a moth to a flame, drawn to rich, powerful, famous people, because he wanted to live vicariously through their wealth. He was greedy. It’s the same with Andrew and Fergie.
“He’s an extremely skilful politician in many ways, but his Achilles’ heel was himself. He couldn’t apply the same common sense [advice] to himself. He was brought down by his own penchant for scandalous behaviour. It’s sort of unfathomable that he thought he’d get away with this.”
