Consumers have been warned not to consume a popular brand of kosher deli meat after a batch was found to contain listeria.
Gilbert’s, which produces kosher meat products, has recalled specific packs of its turkey breast pastrami because the listeria monocytogenes bacterium was detected in a batch, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed.
The recall only applies to 142g packs with product codes CK016 and CK027 and a use-by date of April 9 2026.
Customers who have purchased these specific turkey breast pastrami packs are encouraged to return the product to the store they bought it from for a refund.
Notices explaining why the product is being recalled and what to do will be displayed in all retail stores that sell the product and on their website. Supermarket chains Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Waitrose are among the national retailers to stock Gilbert’s products.

Listeria monocytogenes is one of the most virulent foodborne pathogens and can cause flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature, chills, muscle ache or pain, feeling or being sick, and diarrhoea. In severe cases, listeriosis can lead to sepsis and meningitis.
People who are over 65 years of age, those with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, unborn babies and newborns are particularly vulnerable to listeria infections.
