Jewish volunteers are assisting local emergency services in Hackney, north London, after a blaze engulfed a building next to a synagogue on Cazenove Road in Stoke Newington.Â
It is not yet known at this stage whether the building is linked to the Jewish community.
The street is at the heart of the local Orthodox Jewish community and is the location of Simon Marks school. Â

Jewish security group Shomrim posted on X: “Large fire at a residential house next door to a synagogue on Cazenove Road, N16. Shomrim volunteers are assisting.
“The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, we are keeping an open mind.
"We urge the public to avoid the area to give emergency services space to operate safely.”
Videos posted on social media showed local Jewish residents standing by as fire services tackled the blaze.Â
