Ukrainian-born entrepreneur Sir Len Blavatnik and the Reuben brothers head the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

Sir Len, 63, tops the list with an estimated £23 billion fortune, up more than £7 billion in a year. Holding dual UK-US citizenship after renouncing his Russian passport, he made his money from energy and aluminium operations in the former Soviet Union. His investment in Warner Music has added to his wealth and he has high hopes for his “Netflix of sport”, Dazn.

David and Simon Reuben are second in the list, with a combined wealth up £5 billion to £21 billion, having been on a Stateside buying spree during the pandemic, acquiring undervalued hotels and other properties.

Born in Mumbai, they grew up in North London and attended state schools. Their Reuben Foundation donated £80 million last year to Oxford University to establish Reuben College.

Others high on the list include Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, up almost £2 billion to £12 billion, and Stephen Rubin and family (£6 billion), credited for continuing to make money in a diminishing high street through the Pentland sportswear  brands and a 55 per cent holding in JD Sports.

Cardiff-born Sir Michael Moritz (£3.5 billion) profited by spotting the potential for Google, PayPal and YouTube. Now he focuses on a San Francisco-based foundation he set up with his wife, Harriet Heyman, supporting education and economic and social justice.

Lord Sugar’s wealth is estimated at £1.2 billion while the fortune of Sir Philip and Lady Green – whose Arcadia empire went into administration in December – is now valued by the Sunday Times at £910 million. In 2011, it was calculated at £4.2 billion.

Gerald Ronson and family rank high on a separate list of giving, based on proportion of wealth donated to charity.
