A woman said to have raised tens of thousands for cancer treatment has been charged with fraud amid allegations she did not have the disease.

Nicole Elkabbas, 40, of Edge End Road, Broadstairs, is accused of accepting £45,350 in donations "for an illness she allegedly did not have", Kent Police said.

The ex-JFS pupil faces six counts of fraud after an investigation by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

"She is alleged to have falsely claimed to have required treatment for cancer in order to receive donations from members of the public, between February and August 2018," a police spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added Elkabbas was charged on April 5 and is due to appear before Margate magistrates on May 2.

Her online fundraising efforts on GoFundMe were covered by the Jewish News in March 2018.

She is a comedian who was billed in some performances as being poised to appear on Channel 4.

Promoters for a 2016 show she performed in Ramsgate said of her: "A Londoner that is now proud to be Kent-based, has spent most of her working career in the luxury fashion sector, having grown up in both North and East London."
