A Jewish mother  from Hertfordshire is one of the 12 contestants in this year’s Great British Bake-Off.

According Channel 4, which is broadcasting the show after snaffling it from the BBC, she is called Stacey Hart, is married to husband James and has three young sons.

The 42-year-old is an ex-teacher whose love of baking stems from helping her grandmother, Phyllis, make bread and butter pudding when she was a little girl. It was during her university days where she really started to bake seriously.

One of her specialities is traditional homemade challah which she bakes for the family’s Shabbat dinner.

A self-confessed perfectionist, absolutely nothing leaves Stacey’s kitchen unless she is totally satisfied with it, the broadcaster says.

The new series is set to start on August 29 and will be presented by Noel Fielding, Prue Leith and Sandi Toksvig, with Paul Hollywood the sole survivor from the original BBC version.
