The hit Israeli television series Fauda, about an elite counterterrorism unit, is being adapted into a film, it is believed.
The Netflix series will be adapted for the big screen next year, according to the Israel’s Channel 12 entertainment news show Good Evening with Guy Pines. Show creators and stars Avi Issacharoff and Lior Raz appeared on the programme earlier this week and, when quizzed on whether or not a big-screen version was in the works, Raz did not deny the reports.
Fauda, a global phenomenon, is currently filming its fifth season, which is themed on the Hamas-led attacks of October 7 and is expected to premiere early next year. Producer Liat Benasuly previously told Israel Hayom, “Yes, it's Fauda and it's part of our way to tell the world what happened there.”
Filming of the new season had reportedly been poised to start in 2023, but after the Hamas attacks and the ensuing war its intended storyline was abandoned. Production then started in April 2025.
The new season of Fauda – which means “chaos” in Arabic – is being filmed in Israel and Europe. Following security threats, filming is currently taking place in Budapest instead of Marseille as originally intended. In the trailer for season five, unit member Eli (Yaakov Zada-Daniel), can be seen mentioning Marseille. With the Marseille harbour appearing in the clip, along with further references to France, it is possible that the story will remain set in the French city.
Season five will also star a new character played by French actress Mélanie Laurent, who featured in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
The season will premiere on Yes TV in Israel before reaching global audiences on Netflix.
