Independent MP for Great Yarmouth responds to a fascist account that praised Hitler and blamed Zionists for WW2

The MP for Great Yarmouth has told a neo-Nazi social media user that he would support a ban on kosher meat in the public sector.
Rupert Lowe, who now sits as an independent after being suspended by Reform UK in March amid bullying allegations, was replying to a far-right account on X last week when he made the comment.
When the MP posted that “no public sector institution should serve halal meat,” he was asked by an account using a logo associated with Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists: “What about kosher meat?”
Lowe responded: “Ban it.”

The anonymous account with the name @PureNomad, displays the red and blue lightning bolt logo of the New British Union (NBU), a self-described fascist movement attempting to revive Mosley’s ideology.
Led by former BNP and Britain First activist Gary Raikes, the NBU adopts blackshirt uniforms and the Mosley-era “flash and circle” emblem which appears in its logo.
The @PureNomad account has shared numerous controversial posts on X, including Holocaust denial and praise for Adolf Hitler.
On the same day the account engaged with Lowe, @PureNomad posted: “I don’t think Hitler was initially wrong,” describing the Nazi leader as “brilliant for his nations economy post WW1” [sic]. The account claimed that the Second World War began “because of the Zionist hands on the country’s purse.”
The previous day, the account posted: “I’m a fascist” and described itself as a “pacifist because so was Sir Oswald Mosley.”
Another post from the same account refers to “semitic people” who “have pushed for our European peoples replacement for decades.”
The account also posted an antisemitic conspiracy theory that claimed the Talmud predicted the death of six million Jews as justification for the establishment of the State of Israel.
Lowe’s reply to the extremist account is the latest in a string of controversies surrounding the former Southampton FC chairman.
In May, he was recorded in Parliament making a derogatory remark about Jews while referring to a camera, saying: “In days gone by you’d call it a Jewish camera, but that would be politically incorrect. Because it’s so small.”
He has also previously called for a ban on kosher slaughter in Parliament.
During a debate in June, Lowe said: “We should ban non-stun slaughter, we should ban halal slaughter and we should ban kosher slaughter.” He described unknowingly eating halal meat as “morally repugnant.”
Shimon Cohen, Campaign Director of Shechita UK, stated: “Rupert Lowe's latest call to ‘ban’ Kosher meat, exposes the xenophobia behind much of the opposition to Shechita, the Jewish religious humane method of animal slaughter for food. Shechita is vital for Jewish life in the UK. Banning Shechita, sinisterly but to no one's surprise, is simply a means to harm Jewish life.”
Earlier this month, Lowe mistook a team of charity rowers off the coast of Norfolk for illegal migrants. Posting on X, Lowe wrote “Dinghies coming into Great Yarmouth, RIGHT NOW", alongside a grainy picture of the rowing boat.
He acknowledged his mistake the following day and donated £1000 to the rowers’ charitable cause, research into motor neurone disease (MND).
The Norfolk MP previously served as a Reform UK MEP and was elected to Parliament in July 2024.
He lost the party whip earlier this year and, while sitting as an independent MP, he has since accused party leader Nigel Farage and Reform of “watering down” their position on migration, claiming they were upset with him over his “position on deportations.”
Responding to the news that the Metropolitan Police was dropping its investigation into Reform’s bullying claims, Lowe said the allegations were “false” and accused the party of carrying out a "brutal smear campaign".
"For the sin of asking legitimate questions about the party's direction, policies and leadership, I was vilified and targeted," he said.
Lowe did not respond to the JC’s request for comment.
