Kate Humble’s largely sympathetic portrait of Strictly Orthodox family life in Jerusalem in the latest episode of her BBC Two series, Extreme Wives, contained this nugget; the Duchess of Cambridge is an icon for Charedi women.
“For me, she’s the model of a woman who’s classy, modest, who respects her position,” said Rachel Kleinfast, presenter of a Charedi radio show. “I enjoy seeing a woman who’s well-kept, meticulously dressed and I’d be willing to adopt one or two of her outfits.”
But how would she know about the Duchess if Charedi publications do not show pictures of women? The internet is not censored at work, explained the radio host, and friends forward pics to her via What’s App.
