Jeffrey Tambor, the Emmy-winning star of Transparent, took the opportunity to make a political statement as he was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday.
Mr Tambor, who plays transgender university professor Maura Pfefferman in the Amazon online drama series, said it is “an important time” for the show to exist.
The 73-year-old actor’s statement was a reference to US President Donald Trump’s intention to ban transgender people from serving in the country’s military.
Surrounded by his family and Transparent cast members at the Los Angeles ceremony, he said appearing on the show is “the opportunity of a lifetime”.
He added: “And the responsibility of a lifetime. I can’t think of a more important time to do our show than right now.”
Mr Tambor is also known for his roles as Hank Kingsley in the Larry Sanders Show and George Bluth Sr. in Arrested Development.
