Nathan Fielder to return with new series of hit show

Nathan Fielder took to Twitter to announce that his cult comedy show would return for a fourth series

Nathan for You, the American mockumentary series in which struggling business owners are convinced to employ comically outlandish marketing strategies, is to return for a fourth series.

Fans of the off-beat show from Jewish Canadian comedian Nathan Fielder have been made to wait two years for a new series.

Nathan for You has spawned a number of ideas which have caught the public’s imagination, including the Starbucks parody store Dumb Starbucks, which almost landed Fielder in legal hot water.

Fielder exploited “parody law”, which allows a company’s copyrighted image to be used if it is done for the purpose of poking fun at it, in order to use the coffee chain’s popularity to attract customers to a rival coffee shop.

The new shop, Dumb Starbucks, was effectively identical to a Starbucks outlet, but with the prefix “Dumb” in front of all products.

While Starbucks did not pursue legal action, it did announce that it was “evaluating” the possibility – at which point Dumb Starbucks was closed down.

Nathan for You has also seen Fielder convince a frozen yoghurt shop to introduce a novelty poo-flavoured yoghurt, and devise a scheme for a liquor store to serve underage customers, with the caveat that they were unable to actually leave the store with the alcohol.

Fielder announced that the show will return on September 28 via Twitter last week, with a one-off special airing on September 21.

Fielder is also known for creating his own non-profit outdoor apparel brand, Summit Ice, which also promotes Holocaust education. All profits are donated to the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre.

The idea was spawned when Taiga, his previously-favoured brand, published a tribute to known Holocaust revisionist Doug Collins in one of its winter catalogues.
