Low cost airline Wizz Air has suspended all flights to and from Israel until Wednesday following the missile strikes in the region.
The Hungary-based operator, which runs flights from Luton and several other European airports to Tel Aviv, said the decision had been taken to ensure the “safety and security of passengers and crew”.
Israel’s airspace remains open and Ben Gurion Airport is continuing to operate as normal, the Airports Authority confirmed following an assessment on Monday.
The authority said it is conducting ongoing assessments and remains in continuous contact with the Ministry of Transportation, the Civil Aviation Authority, and the Home Front Command to ensure uninterrupted operations.
In a statement Wizz Air said: “The safety and security of our passengers and crew remains the airline’s highest priority.
“Wizz Air continues to closely monitor the evolving situation in coordination with relevant authorities and will adjust operations accordingly.”
A Wizz flight from Poland en route to Israel today was rerouted to Cyprus.
The popular budget airline, which was the largest foreign carrier operating in Israel before the war and had planned to open a hub at Ben-Gurion International Airport this spring,
Austrian Airlines, which just resumed service to Israel, also cancelled its daily flight to Tel Aviv on Monday.
About a dozen international carriers are currently flying to Israel.
The next available flight currently available on Wizz Air’s UK website departs from Luton at 7.25 on Wednesday morning.
