Arab countries that sign up to a potential peace deal with Iran must join the Abraham Accords, according to Donald Trump.
The US president has called for Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Pakistan and others to make peace with Israel following the signing of a prospective plan to end the hostilities with Iran.
Meanwhile, the US has carried out "self-defence" strikes in southern Iran, targeting missile sites and boats, the US military said.
The Abraham Accords, signed during Trump’s first presidency, normalised relations between Israel and several Muslim-majority countries, including Morocco, the UAE and Bahrain.
Posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, the president said he had raised the issue in conversations with the leaders of several countries on Saturday.
“I stated that, after all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these Countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords. Those Countries discussed are Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates (already a Member!), Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain (already a Member!)," Trump wrote.
Egypt and Jordan already have diplomatic relations with Israel, as does Turkey, though these have become frostier in recent years.
Trump said such agreements – which, he insisted, would “bring true Power, Strength, and Peace to the Middle East for the first time in 5,000 years” – would first be signed by Saudi Arabia and Qatar, then others should follow suit.
In the same post, the Us president said negotiations with Iran were "proceeding nicely” though simultaneously he threatened further military action.
He said: “It will only be a Great Deal for all or, no Deal at all – Back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before – And nobody wants that!”
