The American Embassy in Tel Aviv has provided reassurance to some Israelis born in countries on President Donald Trump’s entry-ban list – but not all.
The embassy said that Israeli passport holders born in one of the countries on the list may still enter the US as long as they have a valid American visa and do not also have a passport from one of the blocked states.
Last Saturday, Mr Trump signed an executive order preventing citizens of Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen — including those who hold dual citizenship — from entering the country for at least 90 days. It has also suspended the admission of refugees for 120 days.
On Tuesday, the American embassy in Tel Aviv said: "If you have a currently valid US visa in your Israeli passport and were born in Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, or Yemen, and do not have a valid passport from one of these countries, your visa was not cancelled and remains valid.
“Similarly, we continue to process visa applications for applicants born in those countries, so long as they do not have a valid passport from one of those countries and have not otherwise declared themselves to be a national of one of those countries.
“Authorisation to enter the United States is always determined at the port of entry. We have no further information at this time."
