Minister condemn Facebook 'intifada' page

articlemain

An Israeli minister has demanded Facebook shut down a group which calls for violent uprisings and a third intifada.

Minister of Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein has written to Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg asking him to remove the page.

The group, which has 25,000 members, calls for a third initifada on May 15 – known as Nakba Day, when Palestinians mourn the establishment of Israel.

Mr Edelstein said he was not writing in an official capacity, but condemned the “outrageous incitement for harming innocent Jews and Israelis.”

The group has received a great deal of publicity in the Arab press, where it has been compared to Facebook movements which started the Egyptian rebellions. The group warn that any attempt to shut them down will lead to Muslims boycotting Facebook.
