Accompanied by a 130-strong business delegation, Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in India on a six-day visit, the first to the country by an Israeli Premier in more than a decade.

Mr Netanyahu was welcomed at Delhi airport by by his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, who said the visit will "further cement the close friendship between our nations".

The business delegation is the largest to accompany an Israeli Prime Minister on an overseas tour and the nations are expected to announce deals and joint investments in areas ranging from defence to renewable energy. 

Mr Netanyahu said before departure that strengthening ties "with this important global serves our security, economic, trade and tourism interests, as well as many other areas. 

"Prime Minister Modi is a close friend of Israel and of mine and I appreciate the fact that he will accompany me on extensive parts of my visit."
