Israel’s disgraced former prime minister Ehud Olmert has been rushed to hospital with a suspected heart attack.
Currently serving time for a series of corruption convictions, Olmert was taken to Tel Aviv’s Tel Hashomer Hospital complaining of chest pains.
A spokesman for Israel’s Prison Service confirmed that the former premier was receiving medical treatment, but would not comment on whether he had suffered a heart attack.
Olmert was convicted in 2014 on a series of bribery charges over a real estate project eight years previously. He was later sentenced on additional bribery charges relating to his period in office as Jerusalem mayor.
The 71-year-old, who began his sentence in February last year, has been seeking early release. The parole board was due to decide on the matter next week.
