Foreign Ministry director Dore Gold has decided to resign.

A report in Ynet said that Mr Gold, 64, was leaving the ministry for personal reasons.

Mr Gold has been active in numerous recent diplomatic initiatives with Sunni Arab states and the recent rapprochement with Turkey.

He previously served as a top aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and as head of the Jerusalem Centre for Public Affairs.
