Israel has become the favourite to win this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The country’s entry for this year’s edition of the televised competition is “Toy”, by Netta Barzilai. It was broadcast on Israeli television on Sunday night.

The 25-year old singer popularly known as Netta was chosen to represent Israel as a result of winning the country’s HaKochav HaBa (The Next Star) singing contest.

After the song’s release, the betting odds for Israel winning the contest dropped to 3/1.

The odds for an Israeli victory had previously been 50/1.

Israel will compete against 43 other nations at the 2018 competition, which will be held in Lisbon in May.

Netta will be hoping to replicate the success enjoyed by Israel at previous 20 year periods: the country won the contest in both 1978 and 1998.
