Israeli gymnast Artem Dolgopyat won gold in the floor exercise at the European Gymnastics Championships in Croatia on Friday, adding another medal to his remarkable tally in international competitions.

Dolgopyat, who represented Maccabi Tel Aviv, scored 14.466 points to win the Zagreb contest, prompting praise from the Israeli prime minister.

“Artem, you bring tremendous honour and national pride to the State of Israel time and again,” said Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israeli sports pundits are now suggesting Dolgopyat should be considered the country’s supreme athlete.
