The IDF has shot a Palestinian man dead in the West Bank following clashes during an Israeli raid on Tuesday night.
Mohammed Alawneh, in his early twenties, was shot in the chest by Border Police in the village of Birqin, near Jenin, after riots broke out, and later succumbed to his wounds.
According to reports on Israeli radio, IDF soldiers carrying out the raid were greeted with a hail of Molotov cocktails and rocks. Alawneh was shot when he picked up a stone to throw at the IDF soldiers.
It was revealed that the bullet used was a 0.22 calibre bullet from a Ruger rifle. Ruger rifles are occasionally used as a nonlethal measure to disperse violent crowds.
A wanted Palestinian man, Muhammad Ali Atiq, 22, from Burkin, was arrested during the raid.
This comes after a spate of terror attacks in the West Bank recently. Earlier this month a man was stabbed by a Palestinian woman in a suspected terror attack, while in June, Israeli man Danny Gonen was killed in a West Bank shooting.
