Israeli President Isaac Herzog received a suspicious package on the second day of his visit to London.
The head of state’s office confirmed that British and Israeli security personnel took care of the object.
The Israel Security Agency responded saying it would use “unique technological capabilities” to increase protection for officials on future visits, according to a Ynet report.
Some of the new security measures are understood to include overt and covert reinforcements used alongside local security forces.
On Wednesday, Herzog and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met at Downing Street.
Their meeting was only announced on the second day of Herzog’s visit.
Both leaders said it was an awkward exchange as Herzog voiced opposition to the UK government’s position on Palestinian statehood and Starmer criticised the Jewish state’s conduct in war against Hamas and Tuesday’s strike on terrorists in Qatar.
Speaking at Chatham House after the meeting, Herzog said: “It was a meeting between allies, but it was a tough meeting.
“Things were said that were tough and strong, and clearly we can argue, because when allies meet, they can argue. We are both democracies. We both understand the threat from the jihadists.”
