A bus explosion in Jerusalem could have been caused by an improvised explosive device, the city's mayor has said.
Police said the bus that blew up was empty at the time, but around 15 people were injured on an adjacent bus.
Two of those hurt were said to have suffered serious injuries.
Mayor Nir Barkat said an IED had been fixed to the bus's chasis and later blew up.
Images from the scene showed a substantial fire around a vehicle in the southern part of the city.
Early reports in Israel said the blast took place on Hebron Road, near the Patt junction and Egged bus company depot.
Images from the scene showed the injured laying in the road covered in blood.
Local media reports initially said police had called the incident a terror attack, believed to have been caused by an explosive device not a suicide bomber.
That was later revised to suggest there had been a fault on an empty vehicle, rather than a bomb, before Mr Barkat's intervention.
Magen David Adom said it had sent paramedics to the scene.
Smoke rising from the bus could be seen across the city. A second bus on the road was also on fire.
