Kosher facilities are among a list of requests from Finchley residents campaigning for a stately home and park to become more accessible to the community.

Avenue House currently provides facilities for weddings and conferences but residents are writing to its trust to ask for a new kitchen to be set up for kosher catering.

More than 50 families are involved in the campaign and organisers hope another 300 people will sign up.

"The demographic of the area is primarily Jewish," said Jason Lurie, one of the campaign leaders.

"There are very few facilities around Finchley with such beautiful grounds that offer this kind of service. There is a huge demand for weddings, bar- and batmitzvahs and birthday parties in the area.

"A kosher kitchen would add another dimension to Avenue House. It offers landscaped grounds, wonderful listed buildings and space for children, so the basics are there. But it is under-utilised."

Rabbi Jonathan Wittenberg, of the nearby New North London Synagogue, said: "It's an exceptionally beautiful park and should be available and accessible to all in the area, including Jews with particular dietary needs."
