The Golders Green Synagogue management has reported on the progress of its £3 million redevelopment project and has updated congregants on plans for the Rimon Primary School set to open on the synagogue site in September.

Addressing the annual meeting, chairman Professor Benny Chain announced that £1 million had been raised towards the redevelopment, which will transform the 90-year-old listed building into a modern multi-purpose space with a traditional feel.

The shul’s fundraising committee is confident of bringing in the remainder and applications are going out to the Lottery Fund and a number of major charitable trusts. In the coming weeks, repairs will start on the building’s dilapidated roof, with financial backing from English Heritage.

“Our synagogue is undergoing its biggest changes in more than 30 years and our community is thriving,” Professor Chain said.
