There were riches from Rags as the Redbridge Aid Golf Society generated £145,000 from its 39th annual tournament at Abridge, the majority for Redbridge Jewish Community Centre.
Community centre chairman Philip Leigh was partnered on his round by former Coronation Street star Bradley Walsh.
Demonstrating commitment to the cause, Rags chair Lloyd Green postponed his honeymoon in order to take part.
“This charity means a lot to me,” Mr Green said. “We’ve raised substantial sums for very good causes and we’ve done remarkably well to raise £145,000 during such difficult times.”
Redbridge JCC will receive £127,500, the CST will get £10,000 and £7,500 goes to the Sidney Gold Rags scholars, teenagers who spend a year in Israel on a leadership training programme.
Rags scholars Roseanna Niman and Alison Mervish said “the money we have received will make a huge difference, enabling us to be part of a life-changing year”.
Michael Nathan was the tournament winner.
