LONDON FA SUNDAY CHALLENGE CUP ROUND TWO

KENNINGWELL UNITED 1st 8 HENDON UNITED SPORTS 0

Sapler was in philosophical mood at the final whistle and told JC Sport: "There’s some games where you just can’t compete with the opposition, today was one of those games. We started really well, moving the ball nicely and playing some good football without being effective in the final third."

Kenningwell scored their first from a good finish, the second was an absolute rocket of a shot and their third was "one of the best goals you will see at a Sunday level. 35 yarder in off the post".

Hendon then had a very strong penalty appeal turned down after Josh Bharier was taken out on the opposition keeper but the referee waved away their appeals.

The visitors went in at half-time knowing they were still in the game if they could get the next goal. However, Kenningwell scored their next two goals after fine work by their wingers and then the impossible task was made even harder when Zac Garbacz was sent off. Kenningwell added their sixth, seventh and eighth in the closing stages.

Sapler said: "We haven’t been tested at all in any game this season and I think it’s been fair to see we’ve been walking through games in the second gear.

"Today we came across the best team I’ve seen play in a Sunday League setting - they had a full set of coaching staff, physios and every player built like an absolute tank.

"We couldn’t compete with the skill, physicality and speed of their players but it was heartening to see that when it came to the basics of playing football we weren’t really far off.

"It was no surprise when I spoke to their management team, who told of their aspiration to win the cup and that the entirety of their squad play at a very high Saturday level.

"Back on to the league next week."
