Baum bonanza as Galaxy bypass PSJ test

Harrison Baum scored his first goal for North London Galaxy in the 2-0 triumph over second division PSJ, with Jordan Grundman securing the win as they saw off a determined challenge to progress in the Cyril Anekstein Cup.

PSJ came into the match with a clear game-plan, which the team executed to a tee. The visitors had their chances and they came away feeling that had a little bit more luck, they were on course to cause a major upset today.

Galaxy were comfortable from the off - they used a narrow diamond formation to have an extra man in midfield. After changing back to their tried and tested 4-3-3, and as legs tired, the game opened massively.

PSJ were also certainly helped by a man-of-the-match performance by goalkeeper Joni Hirschowitz - "one of the best goalkeeping" performances his manager Elio Elia "has seen in Jewish football". The stand-out moment was his double-save from a penalty at 0-0 to keep the underdogs in the game with 10 minutes to go.

Galaxy missed several chances in the first half and they made the breakthrough in the second half when Baum scored a beautifully caressed left-footed shot into the bottom corner following an excellent run and cross from Josh Shack. Galaxy sealed the tie when Grundman’s chase down Hirschowitz before the ball ricocheted off him and into the net.

Galaxy boss Luke Lewis told JC Sport: "10 games. 10 games unbeaten. We march on - anything 💙"

PSJ boss Elio Elia told JC Sport: I’m extremely proud of the boys' performance. The team’s performance really shows how far we’ve come in such a short space of time, especially when you consider the quality of the opposition and our last result against them in pre-season.

"I’m really encouraged and pleased by the attitude, work-rate and desire of this team, and if we continue in the same vein we will go far.

"A lot of positives for us to take into the league now and keep pushing forward."
