Urban kibbutzim, sustainable technology and social justice-inspired soul music are some of the quirky inclusions at Limmud Fest.
The muddy sister of Limmud's main December conference expects around 700 people over the August bank holiday weekend at Sparsholt College in Hampshire. Limmud executive director Raymond Simonson highlights the "special focus on social action and tikkun olam every year. For example, we have Naomi Efrat, who's lived on an Israeli urban kibbutz for eight years."
Other speakers include Ivor Baddiel discussing his campaign to tackle antisemitism in football, American Jewish World Service president Ruth Messinger and Tzedek founder Steve Miller.
The festival will also be running campaigns for World Jewish Relief and the Anthony Nolan Trust. "We are collecting school stationery for children supported by WJR," Mr Simonson explained. "We are also providing an opportunity to sign up to the bone marrow register. The daughter of a patient will be telling her story of trying to find a match from within the Jewish community for her dad."
