A parent’s guide to eliminating stress in exam season

We need to talk about the mental health of young people in our community and beyond. The preoccupation in schools with tests, targets and tables is contributing to immense pressures with far-reaching effects.

    As a study skills coach for teenagers, I encounter a range of issues: from perfectionists who are never satisfied with their efforts or results, to students who are branded ‘lazy’ because they don’t engage. Procrastination, a common challenge for all, is both a cause and a consequence of stress and anxiety.

    As the exam season starts, how can parents support teenagers and help them to develop skills that promote wellbeing?
