Yedid, who is seven and attends Hendon Prep, upstaged his rivals to win the annual competition, beating Tammy Reese in the final.

He beat opponents twice his age, and is looking forward to competing at the British Chess Championships later in the year.

The event featured 150 players from 18 schools, with Kerem retaining the overall winning school crown for the third year. Etz Chaim were runners-up.

MGB’s Alex Elf said “The standard and popularity of chess grows year on year and we look forward to hosting this event in the future. It would not be possible without the help of the schools, chess coaches and arbiters that help run the event.
