DAVE WOOLMAN was the hat-trick hero as last season's finalists Oakwood gave Lions Seniors the run-around at Rowley Lane.
A double from the in-form Josh Rose and man-of-the-moment Brad Wine completed the rout.
Lions went out with a plan to try and frustrate their opponents, but in truth never got into the right positions to effect the game as they'd hoped.
They might point to an ignored linesman's flag for the first and "a clear foul" for the second, but in reality Oakwood simply had too much pace and power for the hosts and, having gone ahead, the game was over as a contest after barely 15 minutes with the second half a mere formality with the score already 5-0.
Oakwood's front three would be a menace for any side, never mind one giving them the better part of 20 years, yet Lions will still be disappointed they made individual errors that prevented them from at least making their opponents work harder for the win than they eventually needed too.
Oaks joint-boss Ric Blank told JC Sport: "We were just too good for Lions Senior. We had too much pace and we just looked in the mood from the word go.
"We were 5-0 up at half-time which tells its own story. We knew they'd have a strong side and it was interesting to see Alex Levack, amongst others, lining up for Lions.
"We were expecting them to be strong - and we weren't disappointed. We want to play against the best players of all ages each and every week. It's the only way to improve.
"But we were just too sharp. We now have Lions Saturday in the next round - that'll be a really good game.
"We're not often underdogs these days but that game will be an exception."
Lions boss Dan Jacobs told JC Sport: "The scoreline reflects the game; we were perhaps a little unlucky not to get the 50/50 calls that led to the opening two goals, but once ahead Oakwood played extremely well and used their superior fitness, pace and strength to thoroughly put us to the sword.
"Guy Helman is a class act and I've lots of time for Josh Bentley, while their front three were terrific.
"We wish them the best of luck - it will take a very good team playing very well to beat them if they play like that in future rounds."
