Strikes from Louis Taylor, Jeremy Teacher and Sam Garson helped second division Faithfold B surprise first division Athletic Bilbaum in a very muddy Chase Lodge.
PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND THREE
ATHLETIC BILBAUM 0 FAITHFOLD B 3
Faithfold's multi-coloured non-matching kit was Jewish cup football at its best but it didn't deter them from finding each other on the pitch.
Louis Taylor opened the scoring in the first half delicately lobbing the onrushing keeper after being played in by Jeremy Teacher. The Bilbaum defence claimed it was offside but their own linesman even admitted Taylor was way onside.
James Stanton had a relatively quiet morning in the Faithfold goal but produced a very good save and a slide tackle timed to perfection to keep the score at 1-0. But it must be said besides that he had very little to do.
Faithfold doubled their lead in the second half after JJ Marrache's shot was blocked at the near post and the ball rebounded to Josh Garson who laid it off nicely to Jeremy Teacher just outside the D who hit it over the floundering keeper. A disagreement ensued whether it was a shot or cross but we believe it was intended. Nevertheless, what matters is that it found the back of the net.
Faithfold pushed for the third goal but credit to the brave Bilbaum keeper who came out very quickly and made some decent saves. It took until the 79th minute to finally get the 3rd and it was Sam Garson who capped it off in style.
Sam Garson told reporters, "It felt good to hold onto a lead and in fact we got stronger as the game progressed. We were solid at the back and creative going forward."
When asked about his cracking goal, Garson told reporters: "It's just Garson instinct."
