One Hatt-on, one Hatt-off

Goldman quickly doubled the lead following a wonderful Maccabi counter-attack. Picking up the ball in his own half, he carried to ball before playing in Toby Levy down the left. Levy took a touch, composed himself and whipped the ball in where Goldman has continued his run and was waiting to head home.

Hatton was desperate to get in on the act and was heavily involved in Maccabi's third, winning the penalty that was converted expertly by Michael Sacks.

Jamie Hatton then scored the goal of the game – a 25-yard thunder-bolt. Chorlton kept fighting and pulled one back soon after, but Maccabi restored their four-goal advantage, through David Herman, who found himself in uncharted territory, slotting home calmly.

Goldman secured his hat-trick in the second half, with a wonderfully taken solo effort, intercepting the ball from the Chorlton defence and taking it round the keeper, via a couple of step-overs.

Maccabi player-manager Michael Sacks said: “The boys killed the game off early and naturally we took our foot off the gas slightly in the second half.

“We have two more league games in the next two weeks, so it’ll be good to see us back on the top, all being well.

“The bad news is that we’re now seven games without a clean sheet and we all know this needs to change - we defend from the front.”
