Two clubs from the MGBSFL travel north in the opening round of the Peter Morrison Trophy while the HMH wonder kids will be looking to make a name for themselves against Boca Jewniors.

Quite possibly the best save Jason Stein has seen at Sunday league level to deny Joey Lazare with his feet in a one-on-one situation with the score at 1-1. YOUR WEEKEND PREVIEW STARTS HERE:
SUNDAY FA CHALLENGE CUP ROUND ONE
NEW SALAMIS vs HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB A
Hendon will be flying the MGBSFL flag on Sunday when they travel to Cheshunt where to take on New Salamis in the Sunday FA Challenge Cup, with manager David Garbacz believing his men have a point to prove.
For all their successes in Jewish football, the SFACC is something that Garbacz would love to see in the jam-packed Hendon trophy cabinet.
“We have never done ourselves justice in this competition although we genuinely would love a decent run in it this year,” Garbacz told JC Sport.
“It is never priority number one but I feel it is a great test against some excellent opposition and would be a fantastic achievement if we were to go far this year.
“Unfortunately we are missing at least four first team automatic choices and possibly more so once more the strength in depth of the squad will be tested to the full.
“We will still have enough quality on the pitch to give a good account of ourselves and will be going to win.”
As former FA Sunday Cup semi-finalists, New Salamis have a strong pedigree, but Hendon have a habit of coming through when the odds are against them and it wouldn’t surprise me if Garbacz’s troops do the business.
JC team news: Hendon are “beset with injuries,” with Ari Last, Avi Korman, Dovi Fehler and Ari Nevies all out. Alex Rosenthal and Greg Corin are rated “very doubtful”.
Venue - Theobalds Lane
DC Prediction: New Salamis 1 Hendon 2

PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND ONE
BOCA JEWNIORS vs HMH
The youngsters of HMH will be up for the cup on Sunday as they look to make the backpages of the JC with a famous win over second division Boca Jewniors.
Manager Nir Wegrzyn told JC Sport his players are “excited to play in the Jewish Cup this year” and are looking forward to a different kind of challenge”.
We are excited to play in the Jewish Cup this year, the boys are looking forward to a different kind of challenge.
Wegrzyn told me HMH will be “missing some key players due to school trips and school activity, but we still have a strong team”.
Ariel Rahamim has shown great improvement and had some great games as no. 10 this year while Jack Joseph and Anthony Meir have struck up a good partnership up front.
Midfield dynamos Mikey Kaye and Daniel Hardoon will be looking to impress the JC Team of the Week judges as will wing wizard Joe Metliss.
Boca’s Anton Nyman is aware of the banana skin nature of this tie and he’s taking nothing for granted.
"With television rights moving our game to the early slot, tensions will be running high across the camp with the WAGS unhappy with the early start time,” Nyman told JC Sport.
"Club captain Simon Englander is ruled out, and there will be a bit of rotating across the team to get back to winning ways quickly.
"We're glad to have not drawn a northern team, but that doesn't make it any more winnable than the last, and we need to be at our best for 90 minutes to see this one through."
Elio Elia is proving a real threat for Boca this season, something they have lacked since Jamie Weinrich departed, and his head-to-head with Joseph will be key to the outcome.
If HMH bring their A-game to the table, I can see them recording an upset.

JC star man: Jack Joseph (HMH)
DC Prediction: Boca 2 HMH 3

LEEDS MACCABI vs WOODFORD WANDERERS
Both Leeds and Woodford claim to be down to the bare bones for their second Morrison Trophy meeting in a year.
Leeds came home victorious from Essex last spring but manager Jamie Warner is taking nothing for granted ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
Warner’s boys have made an excellent start in the MJSL. Last season’s treble winners remain unbeaten in league are sit two points off top spot with a game in hand.
Warner told me leading marksmen Nick Vale and Rob Selwyn are in great nick and they are ready to send Leeds into the next round.
He told JC Sport: “It’s always good to have home advantage, but this is a one-off cup game and anything can happen. It depends who is more up for it on the day."
Woodford have scored in every league game this season but having bowed out of the Cyril Anekstein Cup, managers Daryl Kay and Jerome Marks have challenged their players to put together a strong run in the Jewish FA Cup.
Kay told JC Sport: “We’re once again bare bones for our trip t’up north, but spirit in the camp has been boosted by the signing of the season, Adam Shafron from Redbridge.
“Adam doesn’t make the trip to Leeds with us but has already chosen his seat in the changing room and we’ll be looking for him to bring a mature, winning mentality to the squad.
“Both Jerome and I might play a part on Sunday, with Jerome having to start the game and myself being named in a Woodford squad for the first time in two years.
“No doubt there will be tears and cheers should I make it on to the pitch, in a top that will probably be too tight. But All for one, and one for all!”
It’s important Woodford make a fast start on Sunday as the chances are the journey up the M1 could leave them a little heavy-legged, and that could play right into the hands of Leeds.
JC team news: Woodford travel without key players Elliott Gold, James Ryan, Amir Nathan and David Green, but they’ll be fielding “a strong enough line-up to hopefully progress into the next round of the cup.”
Venue – Squirrel Way, Shadwell, KO – 1.30pm
JC star man: Nick Vale (Leeds)
DC Prediction: Leeds 2 Woodford 1

FC TEAM C vs SPEC FC
There were signs of improvement in SPEC FC last week when they drew 1-1 against Faithfold B.
A scrambled effort from Marc Hecht earned them a point and their fans are hoping for a favourable result on Sunday.
Refreshed by his honeymoon, we hope, SPEC FC player-manager Ricky Lawrence told JC Sport: “Obviously it's been a tough start to the season, but performances have been improving and hopefully we can pick up a win on Sunday to really kick start the campaign."
FC Team suffered their third defeat of the season on Sunday. Goals from Oliver Senchal and Eitan Ben Zion could not save them against L’Equipe and it could be a case of back to the drawing board for boss Michael Myers.
Set-pieces will be important on Sunday and I can see SPEC FC profiting from their height advantage.

JC star man: Marc Hecht (SPEC FC)
DC Prediction: Team 1 SPEC FC 2

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B vs OAKWOOD B
Oakwood boss Jason Stein is ready to unleash new signing Bobby Abrams on Division One rivals Raiders B in the cup on Sunday.
The Scouser opted for the MGBSFL over the Premier League after Jurgen Klopp made a late bid for an emergency striker following Danny Ings’s ACL injury, but the lure of the famous Stein pressers must’ve swayed it.
Oakwood showed tremendous character to come from two goals down to earn a draw in the recent league meeting, when Aaron Searle and that man Jacob Richler Kleiman registered. The prospect of JKR and Abrams certainly has Stein rubbing his hands.
Speaking at this week’s media conference, he told JC Sport: “"Come in DC, the lads are just finishing up in the studio after recording our cup song.
"We have an interesting game this week against Raiders B. I suspect they will be weaker than usual without some A teamers to call on, but I'm expecting a tough game. It always is against any Raiders side on 3G
“We're missing up to eight players ourselves through injury and other things yet we still have a great squad to call on this week so that shows how far we have come in terms of club building. I'm confident we can get through on Sunday.
"We're unbeaten through five, two points off the top and through in one cup already so Sunday is a bit of a free hit in that sense. We'll go out and enjoy our football. What will be will be."
Raiders have yet to convince so far this season. Yes they have goal threats around the pitch but they are conceding regularly this season and they will be pushed to the limit by Oakwood's new forward line.
Once again I don't think they'll be too much in it but can see the rampaging Oaks progressing.
JC team news: Captain Elliot Jackson returns to the fold and will start at centre half.
Venue – Ark Academy, Ref – Andy Myerson, KO – 10am
JC star man: Bobby Abrams (Oakwood)
DC Prediction: Raiders 1 Oakwood 2

BRADY MACCABI vs FAITHFOLD B
Brady Maccabi are one of my home bankers of the weekend.
Although they were frustrated by Oakwood last week, I just can’t see them failing against the Superhoops.
The mercurial talents of Joey Lazare were identified by Oakwood boss Jason Stein last week but both Brady Maccabi and the player himself were keen to dismiss any talk of a move.
Brady are scoring for fun this season, with Nathan Harrod, Josh Newman, Reiss Mogilner and Sam Monjack in great nick.
Boss Josh Dagul told JC Sport: "We want a cup run and that starts on Sunday. We know it won't be an easy game having played Faithfold in pre-season but we're in a rich vain of form and intend to keep wowing the fans on Sunday.
"We're playing the most expansive football since our inception and we don't plan on stopping.
"Reiss Mogilner is closing in on his 100th Brady goal and I fully expect him to be on the score sheet come Sunday."
Dan Howard and Sam Reeves will be huge players for Faithfold this season. Their experience and quality ensures a solid spine but they could be left chasing shadows against a Brady team capable of mounting a long run in the competition.
Venue – Rowley Lane, Ref – John NItka
JC star man: Joey Lazare (Brady)
DC Prediction: Brady 4 Faithfold 1

CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI vs MACCABI MASTERS
The Cats put on a great show for the JC cameras against Scrabble last week but they face a challenge of a different kind against the MMFL Rep Team on Sunday.
Fox-in-the-box Jamie Sinai showed the predatory instincts all Catford fans knew we had last weekend and he will be looking to keep an experienced Masters defence on its toes.
I caught up with Cats boss Jeff Gotch earlier in the week. He told JC Sport: “Well Danny, here we are again another game at home and I'm fully confident this week we can start and finish the same after being ahead in all bar one game this season at half time.
“I have no idea about our opponents. All I know is they will be a hard-working and firm in the tackle. From what I can guess it will be players that I know very well from years gone by who have all now moved to Masters football.
“Either way it promises to be rather exciting to test ourselves against a well-drilled and older team
We will be rotating the squad again and we welcome back Guy Ben Aroya in goal after being out for three months. That is a massive boost for us all.”
Jon Yantin will lead the MMFL team into battle. The Masters League is all the rage at the minute, with numbers stronger than ever. It wouldn’t surprise me if this is reflected after 90 minutes.

REAL SOSOBAD vs ATHLETIC BILBAUM
Dan Shafron’s Sosobad face a potentially tricky encounter against an in-form Bilbaum.
Back-to-back victories over Redbridge Jewish Care B have lifted spirits sky high and they also top the Division One table.
But that will all be forgotten against a Bilbaum side who are improving by the week. Gary Tiller has been in top form while many Sosobad fans are still talking about that James Law strike last Sunday.
Shafron told JC Sport: “We are expecting Bilbaum to give us a very difficult game this weekend.
“This is by no means a straightforward step in to the next round for us. We took Redbridge B for granted in the Anekstein Cup a couple of weeks ago and the boys will know that by approaching this game in a similar manner, we could face an early exit from the competition.
“I know Bilbaum have had a mixed start to the season but have importantly gone three games unbeaten scoring 15 goals in their last four games.
“I expect them to come to us with confidence and belief so we have to make sure we start the game quickly, put them under instant pressure and score an early goal.
“We have started the season well in terms of results but not in terms of performance. At the moment we are just about in second gear and haven’t reached the levels we know we can play to.
“We have worked on a couple of things this week and may take a slightly different tactical approach to ensure that we create more chances and get the most out of certain players who haven’t quite hit form yet.”
Ed Green registered his first of the season in Bilbaum’s 1-1 draw against Raiders C. Goalkeeper Caed Persuad was rewarded for a fine performance with a place in JC Team of the Week and if the Baums are to produce an upset, he will need to step up once more.
Had this game been at the Bernebaum, I’d have given the Baums more of a chance but at the intimidating Seven Kings Stadium, I think Sosobad will have too much on the day.

MACCABI LONDON LIONS A vs NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A
Raiders will be looking to move to within a point of leaders Hendon when they take on Lions at Rowley Lane.
With matches against FC Team and Redbridge Jewish Care to follow, manager Rob Richman is keen for his players to find some momentum at a ground which has brought the best out of his players in recent years.
Richman told JC Sport: “It’s been a very stop start to the season for us so far but from now on in it’s going to be a very busy time with games every week.
“We are excited to get back into the routine of playing every Sunday morning and what better way to start than Lions at Rowley this weekend.
“Lions are always a tricky side to face and having not played for a fortnight, it’s important we find our rhythm quickly in what as always is an important league game.
“Over the coming weeks we are going to have to make full use of the squad and to that extent it’s great that Ricky Engleman is back involved this weekend - we hope he brings his form from the end of last season and the European Games into this week’s game.”
The Lions are still a work in progress and they will be glad to see the back of Redbridge Jewish Care for now after two painful defeats.
It wouldn’t surprise if they drafted in Nick Landesberg to help shore things up in defence as I can see Raiders getting plenty of joy on the break.
Lions joint-manager Johnny Meltzer told JC Sport: “We have a few injuries and simchas so numbers light.
“Having played against Raiders during pre-season we know what to expect and I am sure they will be the putting together a tittle challenge again.”
I can see Lions huffing and puffing but expect Raiders to soak up anything thrown at them and eventually go on to record a comfortable win.
JC team news: Alex Kaye faces a fitness test for Raiders, while Jordan Marks misses out. Nick Lewis returns and Ricky Engleman will make his first start of the season.

MGBSFL PREMIER DIVISION
BLIZZARD STORM vs HARMEN
I don’t know too many teams capable of playing Hendon United with 10 men for an hour and coming away with a point. And Harmen had chances to win it too.
Jake Gottlieb dominated proceedings with the type of performance that made him a legend at North West Neasden. The JC Player of the Week didn’t put a foot wrong, with Alex Taylor also outstanding playing in central defence.
Discipline will be key for Harmen this season. They have the players to win silverware this season and man for man should have the edge against Blizzard.
Boss Joel Alterman told JC Sport: "We seem to have cured the early season blues that caused havoc for us in the first two games and this is highlighted by our fine second half performance against Hendon last week.
"If we perform like that every week with 11 men on the pitch then we will be very difficult to break down.
"From all accounts, Blizzard Storm are a hard working side with plenty of quality players but I fully expect that our experience and current form will see us take all three points in Sunday."
Simon Linden’s troops were left doubled up by Camden Park. His squad has been hit by injuries to key players but they can’t use that as an excuse because it’ll be Chanukah before they know it.
Indeed Linden remains on the look-out for free agents and he hopes that Adam Levene has Gottlieb’s card marked in a thrilling head to head between two of the finest players in the league.
JC team news: Last weekend's star man Jake Gottlieb is absent through suspension, otherwise Harmen have a full squad to choose from.

CAMDEN PARK vs FC TEAM A
Jordan Silverstone is in line to make his first start for FC Team for Sunday’s meeting with FC Team.
Will Castle’s troops are on a great run of form and have really found their feet in the top division.
Jake Saunders and Rob Hershkorn have been playing out of their skin and they will be looking to impress against inconsistent opponents.
Ahead of kick-off, Castle told JC Sport: “We know this week will probably be our hardest test since Hendon, but after winning three on the bounce, we have every intention of making it four.
“Thankfully we have no new injury concerns and we welcome vice skipper Max Saunders back on the bench. Ben Harris also returns to the squad.
Team were ultimately well beaten by Oakwood last week. They simply had no answer to the pace and power of their opponents, though they will face a very different style against Camden.
If Camden do the business and results go their way, they could finish the weekend in top spot. If that’s not incentive enough then I don’t know what is.
Venue – Capital City, Ref – Neil Cooper

DC Prediction: Camden 2 Team 1

FAITHFOLD A vs OAKWOOD A
Having put five past FC Team, I expect Oakwood to go from strength to strength when they visit Faithfold on Sunday.
Dave Woolman and Brad Wine were in a league of their own last weekend and I expect them to inflict more pain on Faithfold.
The FC Team victory was about as good as it gets at this level, though joint-manager Dan Kristall won’t allow his players to under-estimate the Superhoops.
He told JC Sport: “We take every opposition seriously and this Sunday is no different.
“We expect our hosts to be buoyant following their superb win in the Anekstein and I’m sure they will fancy their chances.
“If we apply last week’s form and bring it into this week, we feel that we will be too strong for Faithfold.
“To achieve our aims this season, we know that we must keep winning and that is our main focus. We know that complacency isn’t an option.”
Faithfold enjoyed a big cup win last time out against lower league opposition. They have conceded 20 goals in just three league games and parking the bus must be an option for boss Dan Beresford.
But I can only see Oakwood winning the individual and collective battles and I expect them to cruise home without needing to get out of first gear.
JC team news: Oakwood are mainly unchanged although Eddie Manson is a doubt but they welcome back David Cohen. Dan Rose still away.

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B vs BRIXTON OLD BOYS
I have a feeling Brixton Old Boys could feel the full force of a Redbridge B backlash on Sunday following back-to-back defeats against Real Sosobad.
RJC played well in both games and scored twice against a well-drilled defence, but they have conceded six goals in two weeks now and that is something boss Jason Goldstein will be keen to address.
“The players have picked themselves up from last week last minute defeat to Real Sosobad,” RJC’s Sam Rank told JC Sport.
“Now the boys are determined and motivated to get their first three points of the season again Brixton.
“The improvement from game to game has been very good, just the final has end product has been lacking.
“Hopefully with the training that's has taken place, we will be able to take the chances we create.”
Brixton’s first outing of the season was one they would rather forget. With Alan Aaronson no longer at the helm, Rob Silverman will be looking for a big reaction following the 7-0 humbling at the hands of Los Blancos.
There were one or two boos at the final whistle and Silverman will do well to lift the feeling of unrest in what could be another long 90 minutes.
JC team news: RJC’s Richie Caplin is now out for an extended period. His teammates “wish him a quick recovery”. The rest of squad is available which will prove some hard decisions for manager Jason Goldstein to make.

HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B vs REAL HENDON
Hendon is reaching fever pitch ahead of the first derby of the season as the United boys get ready to rumble against Real.
Victory for Real would take them to within a point of United, with the likes of Martin Smulovitch, Chaim Gothold and Gav Noe keen to impress against their former club. It will be interesting to see if they keep celebrations low key should they score for the second week in a row.
Hendon boss Adam Glekin was disappointed with their second-half performance at Boca last week. James Neidle, Sammy Barron and Ben Blackston were the marksmen in a 3-1 win, with Blackston’s goal the pick of the bunch.
I can see an open and entertaining affair finishing honours even and with goals aplenty.

TEMPLE FORTUNE vs FAITHFOLD C
Both Fortune and Faithfold had mornings to forget on Matchday 6 of the season. Jonathan Cohen’s men conceded eight times against the Lions, while the Superhoops suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, with five goals going past them against Real Hendon.
But opportunity knocks for both sets of players, with Dan Gordon making a welcome return to the Faithfold squad.
Fortune have leaked 22 goals in four outings and it’s important they get numbers behind the ball against a team with genuine goal threats.
