FAITHFOLD A vs HARMEN
Two of the big winners from Matchday 3 are ready to rumble for what promises to be a high-octane contest between Faithfold and Harmen.
Faithold earned, for me, the standout result last Sunday as a last-gasp effort from Johnny Haik sparked scenes of wild celebration as they ended Hendon’s long unbeaten run. More of the same is the order of the day from JC Manager of the Week Zuriel Solomon.
It was as good a Faithfold performance the Superhoops faithful have seen in over a year – everyone pulling together, fighting for the cause and playing for the badge. It was a day when Faithfold showed huge desire – they simply would not be beaten.
But it’s vital they approach this game in very much the same mind-set, as Harmen go into it on the back of a terrific result against Woodford.
Jake Gottlieb and James Gershfield registered in Harmen’s first win – a game in which keeper Harry Fine and the versatile Sam Castle were at their very best at the back.
Looking ahead to Sunday, Harmen joint-manager Joel Alterman told JC Sport: “We are learning fast that there are no easy games in this league. We thought we had played the toughest team in the league in our opening fixture, but after Faithfold beat Hendon last week we know that we are going to be in for a really hard time on Sunday and there will be no let up from there.
“We really clicked last week against Woodford and will be looking to continue where we left off as we look to gain some momentum and continue getting points on the table.
“We took promotion to test ourselves against the best teams in the league and Faithfold A are up there so we expect a tough match. It should be a great game of football to watch and the lads are all raring to go.”
Midfield will be the key area for me on Sunday and the battle between Sam Reeves and Ben Weinberg will be key.
Harmen team (from): Alex Bowman, Ben Henry, Ben Weinberg, Bradley Dryer, Bradley Sharp, David Ronson, George Fierstone, Harry Fine, Jake Gottleib, James Castle, James Gershfield, Joey Lazare, Jon Morris, Marc Foster, Omri Brinner, Ricky Rinder, Rob Blackman, Sam Castle

JC star man: Sam Reeves (Faithfold)
DC Prediction: Faithfold 1 Harmen 1

NORSTAR LONDON RAIDERS A vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS BLUE
NLR have started the season like a house on fire and I make them strong favourites to cage the Lions on Sunday.
They were simply majestic against Redbridge in the cup last weekend, with manager Rob Richman telling me after the game that he wouldn’t swap midfield maestros Ben Joseph and Liron Mannie for the world. Joseph’s JC Goal of the Week was right out of the top-drawer.
Ahead of Sunday’s visit from the Lions, Richman told JC Sport: “Jon Green and I have been really pleased with our opening two games of the season. That being said we are aware that it is very early on in the season and we will need to continue to produce strong performances week in week out to achieve our aims for the season"
"Sunday will be another tough test - over the years we have had many a good battle with Jamie's Lions side. They will be confident after last week's good result but we will aim to play in the same manner as the previous two weeks and try and get another good result."
As Richman says, the win over Neasden was priceless for the Lions. Harry Franks (2) and goal-poacher James Gold earned them a nail-biting 3-2 win, with Sam Lipton also catching the eye.
MLL boss Jamie Kyte told JC Sport; "This week marks the debut of a former London Lions youth team player Jack Franks. He will be replacing David Kosky in goal who is slowly being phased out of the team for being Kosky.
"With Phil Peters no longer at the helm at NLR, I have a feeling anything could happen this week."
Bottom line is Raiders away is a totally different proposition than NWN, and I think the Lions may struggle to adjust.
JC team news: Injuries are a concern for NLR at the moment - Josh Pistol the latest to pick up an ankle knock and he joins Elliot Espinoza, Matt Stock and captain David Rhodes in the treatment room. Jonny Kay and Liron Rutovitz make welcome returns after missing last week's win.
Lions will be at full-strength, with the exception of Ryan Springer.

JC star man: Liron Rutovitz (NLR)
DC Prediction: NLR 3 MLL 0

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A vs NORTH WEST NEASDEN
Sam Rosenthal’s Redbridge were given a football master-class by Raiders last weekend, and it’s fair to say the east Londoners are looking forward to playing on grass against newly-promoted Neasden on Sunday.
I can see them coming out like caged animals who will be up for it right from the start.
Rosenthal won’t read too much into last Sunday’s 4-0 scoreline. He knows full well that teams better than Redbridge have come a cropper on NLR’s favoured surface. What would’ve concerned him, however, is one or two of his players losing their cool, and he knows they are much more of a threat when they stay together.
Experience will be key for RJC on Sunday, with keeper Dan Lee, the Hakimi brothers, Sam McCarthy and Steve Summers up top.
But they will find themselves up against a Neasden team for whom every game is like a cup final. Manager Stirling Kay was proud of the performance and fight shown by his players and he won’t need to say much ahead of a game that will have something of a derby feel.
Kay told JC Sport: “Although we came away with no points last Sunday, there were many positives - to come back in the second half with a depleted squad with four new faces, and defenders playing in midfield and up front. So to come away from it feeling disappointed says everything about the squad.
“It was a great effort by everyone and may be next time we will get the decision go our way in the final seconds.
“As far as Redbridge are concerned, it’s a club I know very well. I have the utmost respect for the work Richard Bronzite and Jon Jacobs have done to move the club forward and now, with Sam Rosenthal as manager, they will be a force once more. They have some seasoned players in the Hakimi brothers and Steve Summers who are all born winners. So with all their new players they will be very difficult team to beat.
“As for ourselves, we are going through a very difficult time as far as injuries are concerned. At this present time we have 10 players who are out long or short-term and we’re giving the rest of our players until Saturday to see if they can make it.
“At this present time we only have seven players who are certain to play. This is not how we want to approach this big game, but providing we get enough players to play the game we will give everything to win the game.
“We are trying to sign some players to get us through this tough period, but finding the right players is not easy.
This is definitely one to keep an eye on, although anything other than a home win would be a major surprise.
JC team news: One good bit off news NWN is “the beast” is back in the fold, as Kay welcomes back Jaime Cooper.

DC Prediction: RJC 2 NWN 1

WOODFORD WANDERERS vs FC TEAM A
Having safely negotiated round one of the Anekstein, Team go in search of their first win when they make the long journey east to take on the Wanderers of Woodford.
Alon Hershkorn was the toast of Mill Hill last Sunday as his hat-trick fired Ben Gilbey’s men through in the League Cup.
A delighted Gilbey told me that summer arrival Hershkorn is looking razor sharp and he’ll be looking to heap more misery on a Woodford team who have lost their first two games.
“We want to do well in the cups this year,” Gilbey told JC Sport after an emotion-filled 90 minutes against Catford. “It was also important as a minutes silence was held before all games on Sunday for Stanley Shaverien who has recently passed away. His grandson, Daniel Rothman, is a member of Team and was important that we won in Stanley's name.
“We won in a very comfortable game where we hardly ever came out of second gear, which I was impressed with as we were short on numbers.”
Shim Bensoor and David James Cohen added the gloss and it’s important Team kick on from here.
Woodford fell short against fellow new boys Harmen last week. That’s two games they’ve gone without scoring now and, no doubt, boss Tony Charles will have called his strikers in for extra shooting practice.
Momentum has been lost following their excellent title success and they shouldn’t expect any favours against the north Londoners.
Venue – Fairlop, Ref – Adam Lewis
JC star man: Alon Hershkorn (Team)
DC Prediction: Woodford 1 Team 2

ATHLETIC BILBAUM vs REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B
Anything Nathan Sollosi can do, Sam Sollosi can do better. That was the chant at Fairlop last Sunday when wonder kid Sam had Los Blancos chasing shadows last weekend.
The league leaders adjusted well, following the departure of some of their top players, with young Sam stepping up.
RJC boss Jon Jacobs was waxing lyrical about the midfield maestro who will be looking to emulate what his brother achieved last season. It’s certainly a tough act to follow, but don’t put it past him.
Back to Sunday and the east Londoners face a real test at the Bernebaum against a Baums team riding high after a stunning win over Brady Maccabi.
Ahead of kick-off, Jacobs told JC Sport: “My biggest thought is ensuring 11 players find their way to Regents Park - our biggest worry is not the opposition, but Brad Grant’s alarm clock!”
Joint-player-manager Julius Judah led from the front – with a hat-trick earning him a place in my Team of the Week. Josh Flax also played out of his skin, as did the magical Ben Bell, while keeper Simon Roth showing his class.
The challenge now for Bilbaum is to do it all over again. They had nothing to lose against Brady, but RJC will be on their guard to ensure they’re not on the end of some capital punishment.
It’s no surprise that this game has been sold out for weeks and fans are advised to arrive early for a match that will not disappoint.
JC team news: Jacobs “doesn’t want to labour the point, but further unavailability is testing the squad to the full. Captain and inspirational leader Darren Brown is away in Madrid, teaching Sergio Ramos how to defend!”
Venue – Regents Park, Ref – Keith Goodman
JC star man: Harry Mednick (RJC)
DC Prediction: Bilbaum 2 RJC 2

BRADY MACCABI vs BLIZZARD STORM
Brady were left shellshocked after their defeat against Bilbaum last Sunday and manager Josh Dagul has had his players working hard on defensive shape as they have leaked seven goals in the last two games.
There’s no need to get back to basics and the logic on Sunday will probably be something along the lines of – if Blizzard score three, we’ll get four.
With players of the calibre of Reiss Mogilner, Josh Newman, Sam Monjack and Dan Harrod, Dagul isn’t hitting the panic button yet. Far from it, he’s backing his boys to do the business against a Blizzard team equally littered with potential match-winners.
The Storm super-heroes ran out comfortable 5-1 winners over lower league opposition last week, with summer signing Oli Henry (2) leading the way.
Last week’s star man, Mitch Green, made it three goals in two games, with Oli the deadly Dean Shaw and Stuart Muller putting the icing on the cake.
Ahead of kick-off, Blizzard boss Simon Linden told JC Sport: "It's been good to get a couple of wins under our belt, but I expect a much harder game against Brady. It's the type of game I need us to be winning if we are to challenge this season."
Both teams are involved in the Jewish FA Cup next weekend, so it’s vital they go into their respective ties full of confidence.
Goals look guaranteed on Sunday, and with home advantage I’m tipping Brady to edge it.
Venue – Rowley Lane, Ref – Andy Myerson
JC star man: Ben Hildebrand (Brady)
DC Prediction: Brady 3 Blizzard 2

BRIXTON OLD BOYS vs NORSTAR LONDON RAIDERS B
There’s a big gulf in class between Brixton and Division Two champions NLR B, and that will be pretty evident from the start in what looks like one of the weekend’s easier games to predict.
As predicted, Brixton came out second best in their opener at SPEC FC last week, in game they led 2-0 through Jason Lindsay and Sacha Benfredj.
Fitness will be the key factor for me on Sunday, as NLR’s wing wizards run riot at Barrowell Green.
If Jacob Gold and Nicky Woolf start up top for the Orange men, you have to fear for Brixton.
Venue – Clowes, Ref – Neal Cohen
JC star man: Jacob Gold (NLR)
DC Prediction: Brixton 0 NLR 4

CAMDEN PARK vs SPEC FC
Nostalgia will be in the air on Sunday when SPEC FC travel to ambitious Camden Park.
Fresh from their first win, SPEC have the bit between their teeth, although managers Michael Rhodes and Ricky Lawrence know their good work could come unstuck against a good Camden team.
Ahead of the game, I managed to grab a few words with Lawrence. He told JC Sport: “Camden are one of the few clubs the reformed SPEC have never played against but we are expecting a difficult game.
“More importantly we are very much looking forward to returning to our old home ground in Hatfield. We'll be sure to visit the statue of former gaffer Laurence Conway before the game."
Camden have reported a virtually full-strength squad and Max Saunders tells me they are “raring to go”.
“Everyone is availablethis week, and after an extra week to ponder over our loss against Redbridge, we’re all very excited to have the chance to play again and get back to winning ways.
“Hopefully the squad have been doing some extra fitness work individually, as instructed, and we’re all looking forward to testing ourselves against a SPEC team that impressed last week with a good performance against Brixton.”
Indeed I can see Saunders influencing the game and Richard Silver among the goals.
JC team news: Long-term injury victim Ben Harris is Camden’s only absentee.
SPEC FC are missing key men Daniel Pike and Marc Hecht, who are off to the Ryder Cup, but they’re are hoping Ashley Burns passes a late fitness test.

DC Prediction: Camden 3 SPEC 1

DIVISION TWO
DANNY CARO'S DIV 2 TEAM OF THE WEEK
AC MILL HILL vs JEWDINESE
Jake Erlich has labelled ‘Nese’s trip to Mill Hill as must-win as they look to get their season back on track.
They looked much-improved against title favourites FC Team B last Sunday, with keeper Toby Constad in top form, as was Ben Assor who played “out of his skin”.
But it all counted for nothing in the end as Team ran out 1-0 victors and Erlich this week reminded his new-look squad about the importance of turning possession into goals.
He told JC Sport: “Simply put, we need to win. We know the performances have been there, but the results haven't which is why the team do not feel that disheartened with the first two results.
“However, it's time to step it up a gear and turn our domination into wins. It's important we stay calm and focused as I know that we are on the verge of reaching our peak and trust me once we get going I know my boys will be hard to stop.”
Mill Hill must be feeling equally frustrated. Summer arrival Jamie Kent joined strike partner Ben Zloof on the scoresheet last weekend, but a first win is proving more elusive than boss Dan Beresford first thought.
There are some influential players in both camps, but Sunday will ultimately come down to which teams holds its nerve in front of goal.
Venue – Chase Lodge, Ref – Neil Cooper
JC star man: Ben Assor (Nese)
DC Prediction: Mill Hill 0 Jewdinese 0

AC WHETSTONE vs FC TEAM C
David Gordon assured me his players will be focused and have their sights firmly set on their third straight victory ahead of the trip to Borehamwood.
Daniel Alfreds, Daniel Stanton, Mitch Lassman and Aron Barnes steered Team past Mill Hill, although they were given a major scare in the second half and were left clinging on for the win.
Only a 90 minute performance will do against an unbeaten Whetstone team.
Gordon told JC Sport: “Despite our two wins so far, we won’t be taking Whetstone lightly, especially considering their excellent start.
“We know we need to do better defensively and we’ll be trying to find a better balance between defence and attack.
“Hopefully the 3G pitch will suit us; we’ve had some good results on it in the past.”
Whetstone have goal threats all over the team, with Philippe Auret, Rob Cohen and Dan Cohen already making their mark.
Clive Nathan and Anthony Jacobs will relish rubbing shoulders with some of Jewish football big machers, although Team’s experience and physical edge may hold the key.
JC team news: Team expect to welcome back Blake Buckman and Ben Graham.
Venue – Hertswood Centre, Ref – Martin Lavender

CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI vs FC TEAM B
If you’re looking for a good, old-fashioned blood and thunder affair, this is your game.
Team have started the season in great shape – three consecutive wins and they’re strong favourites to notch up a fourth on Sunday.
Lorian Madanes was their match-winner in a tight game at Jewdinese last Sunday, with war-horse Dan Silverman battling on impressively after a nasty cut to the eye.
Young blasted his strikers after the game, believing Team should’ve won by a more emphatic margin – and there were some who said he’d mellow after becoming a father again!
The Cats have yet to win this season, but it certainly isn’t for the lack of trying. Captain Adam Luria admitted his team could not live with the “pace and movement” of their top-flight opposition after FC Team’s first-string handed out a 5-2 defeat.
Zak McLeod and Jeff Gotch found the net for the Cats, but no doubt Young would’ve been in the ear of Ben Gilbey at training to get the low-down on the home side.
I can see the Cats huffing and puffing for 60 minutes or so, but in the end Team’s superiority will pay handsome dividends, with home keeper Guy Ben-Aroya put under serious pressure from Team’s first-class deliveries from set-pieces.
JC star man: Adam Rones (Team)
DC Prediction: Catford 1 Team 4

NORSTAR LONDON RAIDERS C vs L’EQUIPE
Zack Gothelf returns to the dug-out for NLR on Sunday for a clash featuring the teams who finished first and second in Division Three last season.
Gothelf was delighted to hear how well the side fared under assistant-manager David Domb and with a tasty home tie against Blizzard in the next round of the cup secured, attention turns to claiming a first league win of the season on Sunday.
“So that's part one of the triple-header with L'Equipe done, and it went our way,” Domb told JC Sport. “A pleasing win, but ultimately when we cross the white lines on Sunday, it will count for nothing.
“If their thoughts from pre and post-match are anything to go by, they'll have a different side out, and we know the problems they can cause. However, this is a game we should be looking at winning if we have any chance of achieving our objectives for this season.
“We can take great confidence from Sunday's win, but we need to start putting points on the board in the league. We had a solid start before the cup game, but it will mean little unless we start winning league matches.”
L’Equipe will be out to settle a score on Sunday. Managers Dan Prager and Josh Lewis would’ve spent hours pre-Rosh Hashanah watching footage of last week’s defeat.
Revenge is clearly on the mind of Lewis, who told JC Sport: “After only having 11 players available last week, we have nearly a full squad to choose from for our second successive game against Norstar.
“There were many positives for us to take out of last week and in the end with some better finishing and more concentration at the back we could’ve won the game.
“The league is our priority now and we want to get off the mark this weekend and start the new year with an important three points against a good Norstar team.”
The sides meet again in the Morrison next week, but I can see NLR going into it leading 2-0 in the series, thanks to more heroics from livewires Bloom and Nathan.
JC team news: Raiders have been stunned by the news that captain Jonny Samuel could be out for up to three months with knee and ankle injuries. Marc Woolfe could return after missing last week's game with a hamstring problem, and Dan Tannenbaum is in line to make his first appearance of the season.
L’Equipe will hand a debut for James Mandell, and they also welcome back our co-manager Dan Cordell, Nick Stern, former Norstar player Jon Kay and Jules Bohm.

FAITHFOLD B vs SHACHARIT DONETSK
Several Premier Division scouts will be out in force to see if Shacharit starlet Adam Ellis can reproduce his heroics from last week against Faithfold B.
Young Adam’s stunning five-goal cup salvo against Oakwood B earned him some rave reviews as the JC Player of the Week accolade. Faithfold B must be shaking in their boots right now.
The moneyball effect is something that can only excite manager Elliot Nussbaum, but with a decent draw away to Hendon B in the next round, picking up league points is the short-term priority.
Although Ellis was the show-stopper last Sunday, Nussbaum also praised the dynamic Eli Davila for a stellar performance in defensive midfield.
Faithfold’s elation at winning their first league game was wiped away by London Rovers last week, with Dan Ezra the chief tormentor.
I don’t expect Rob Shooman’s boys to draw too many blanks this season, with Dan Gordon up top, but they could find things tough again on Sunday.
Venue – The Hive, Ref – Elliot Mayer
JC star man: Eli Davila (Shacharit)
DC Prediction: Faithfold 1 Shacharit 2

KING CROWN vs BOCA JEWNIORS
With almost his entire squad to pick from, new Boca boss Gabe John is looking forward to the start of a new revolution this Sunday.
With the introduction of players like Josh Webber, Josh Marlow, Jack Goldsmith, Charlie Hollis and Ash Freeman, gaffer John has a wealth of talent at his disposal.
"I'm really encouraged by the ability and aptitude of this group of lads. I've got really high hopes for them," John told JC Sport.
Returning stalwarts Sefton Monk and Anton Nyman help give Boca some real bite. Not to mention John can play a bit too.
King Crown boss Jacob Kadoch knows it’s early days, but you cannot argue with two wins out of two. They look strong going forward and have only conceded once in 180 minutes.
Looking ahead to Sunday, Kadoch told JC Sport: “The team is now even stronger so we’re looking forward to continuing the momentum and hopefully taking all three points.”
Crown’s front three of Phil Braham, Sacha Nusenbaum and Ben Retter are proving something of a potent force and I can see them having just too much for battling Boca.
JC team news: King Crown welcome back Yoel Deal who was missing for the last game.

KS REUNITED vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS GREEN
Fresh from their first win, the Lions go in search of another famous away win, this time in Essex.
Nicky Silverstone and former NLR boss Phil Peters found the back of the onion bag and they will be looking to pile on the pressure on a KS defence that conceded 11 times in the League Cup last weekend.
Damage limitation was the name of the game for the KS boys against Premier Division giants Oakwood. Missing key players, they struggled to get out of their own half at times, and even made Dan Cohen look like Pele.
Boss James Lewis admitted that Oakwood were “stronger better and quicker to every ball,” with Zack Gordon’s well-taken strike little more than consolation.
Ahead of Sunday, Lewis told JC Sport: "We are looking forward to our first home game of the season, and after back-to-back defeats the double debut of ex-Woodford stars James Ryan and Joe Sumray should give the fans something to cheer about, with a record crowd expected."
The challenge for KS now is to climb the MGBSFL ladder, beef up the squad and play teams like Oakwood every week. One step at a time though lads …
JC team news: Key KS duo Jason Goldstein and Ethan Deal remain in New York and are expected back next week.

TEMPLE FORTUNE vs REAL SOSOBAD
Dan Shafron insists Real Sosobad will not get carried away after picking up their first win since joining the MGBSFL.
Recent arrival Adam Goodman sealed the points with an expert finish, and Shafron says there’s more to come from the east Londoners.
He told JC Sport: “Last week was important for my team. We played some very good football and got the three points we deserved. Yes we beat Hendon but we absolutely cannot get carried away. Those points are now history and we must focus on the next three points.
“This week we play a team filled with history - a team founded 46 years ago. We respect Temple Fortune for their status in the MGBSFL and know that we will be punished if we approach the game with a relaxed attitude.
“They’ve had a difficult start to the season - having lost to Shacharit and Lions - but only by small margins. They’ve also scored in both games which shows that they can catch us out if they get the chance.
“We must look to build on our defensive capabilities and enhance on our strengths going forward.
“Right now, I feel like we have Lamborghini’s, Ferrari‘s and Bugatti’s running on standard unleaded. It is important that they all stop at the Shell garage on the A41 on Sunday morning and fill up their tanks with V Power Nitro +.”
Technical assistant Matt Geppert commented: “We must continue to work on playing quick football and keeping the ball on the floor. Too often against Hendon we played to their strengths in the final third.
“We know that Fortune are another physical team who will make it hard for us to get in behind them, so we have to utilise the full width of the pitch and use our pace.
“It’s the gaffer’s birthday on Sunday so it would be great if he can go home with a birthday present in the form of three points!”
Anthony Shaw’s cracker was the highlight for Fortune in last week’s defeat against the Lions. At the moment, Jonathan Cohen’s boys feeling that luck is evading them and I can see them being pickpocketed once again in a game that will come down to small details.
JC team news: Jamie Crawford and last week’s debutant and hero Adam Goodman are both out for Sosobad, but Craig Mervish, Elliott Coulton, James Rubin and club captain Joe Grant are available for selection.
Venue – Roger Bannister, Ref – Alex Smith
JC star man: Craig Mervish (Sosobad)
DC Prediction: Fortune 0 Sosobad 1
