Manchester Maccabi continue silverware push with 4-1 win

Aaron Goldman opened the scoring in the first half, latching on the flick on following a corner from the left.

After going into the break one goal to the good, Maccabi pushed forward in the second half and doubled their lead through Toby Levy, latching on to a Carl Peters through ball and chipping to onrushing keeper.

The game continued to be tightly balanced, until Maccabi got their breathing space through Louie Basso, after some quick thinking from substitute Sam Van Gelder.

Parkway Villa continued to fight back and pulled one back through a David Herman own goal.

But Maccabi hit back again, with man-of-the-match Goldman grabbing his second of the game as Maccabi march on.

Maccabi player-manager Michael Sacks said: "I always say it's a squad game and we proved it today with Sam Van Gelder doing his best impression of the Spurs' ball boy. If I wasn't on the pitch myself, I would have given him a Mourinho-esque hug.

"We weren't at the races today, and came up against a well-organised side. Luckily, the boys showed enough in the second half and got the result we wanted.

"Next week is another cup game against Snipe - so we know to expect a tough battle which we'll be ready for."

Maccabi's Yellow team also experienced cup victory, beating Reich in the Tony Cohen Cup at Brooklands.

The Yellows had a four-goal advantage from the first leg, and notched another five to run out convincing winners and set up an all Maccabi final.

All five Maccabi goals came in the second half, with Josh Hayes scoring a brace. Veteran Adam Lavin got his name on the scoresheet, as did Josh Lewis and an own goal saw the Yellows progress.
