GARSTON VETS LEAGUE
MACCABI LONDON LIONS 11 WALTHAMSTOW 0
Lions made light work of seeing off Essex County Cup finalists Walthamstow at Rowley Lane on Sunday, the visitors certainly suffering a cup hangover after their victory last weekend.
Saul Conway was the man possessed in the first period scoring three times, his hat-trick goal, a flick over the on-rushing keeper into the corner of the net, a real stunner.
Tony Gold and Lee Cash were the other scorers in the opening half that even saw time for Alex Levack to have a penalty very well saved by the Walthamstow keeper.
Super-sub Paul Hakim added a brace in the second half, the first a great flick but the second a most sumptuous volley from 20 yards that would have graced any game. Cash completed his hat-trick with two more fine strikes with both Max Radford and Mike Pearson adding the gloss.
There were many more chances, Hadley Silver seeing a penalty of his own also well saved by the over worked keeper.
Tough tests await the Lions throughout March. With injuries and non-availability, how they are handled by the group will go a long way to determining if they’ll be in the shake up for league and cup honours come the season end.
