Indeed for the last three seasons, Lions have been drawn against – and conquered – Wodson Park in this competition.
This time it was largely thanks to a brace from Max Kyte and also some important rearguard action against a good team.
Wodson Park were always going to be a tough opponent, lying third in the league, and out for revenge for the 3-0 final win at Cheshunt in March.
While Lions were not at their fluent best, it’s fair to say, they got the goals needed to get the job done and were also able to keep a welcome clean sheet.
Lions broke the deadlock just before half time when recent signing Adam Bolle showed trademark courage to win a header in the heart of the Park area, his effort rebounded off the post to Kyte who tapped in the opener.
Wodson Park pressed after the interval and forced Lions into some determined rearguard action. Dan Lipman was called upon, but he was also very well protected by some outstanding defending from Adam Myeroff and man-of-the-match Nick Landesberg.
Lions put the game out of reach with another goal from Kyte; this time the big man cut in from the left and fired a shot into the corner to effectively seal our place in the next round.
Kyte has scored 4 goals in just two and a bit games since his return, and alongside Adam Bolle has added a fresh cutting edge to the Lions attack.
Manager Landesberg was pleased to be through: ‘We battled hard even though our passing could have been better, we had to defend manfully against a very good team in Wodson Park and we are all pleased to be through a good test. We aim to keep getting stronger."
