HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB A vs FAITHFOLD A
While much of the talk in football this week has centred around Pep Guardiola’s next move, there’s the little matter of the JC MSFL top-of-the-table clash between defending champions Hendon and long-time leaders Faithfold on Sunday.
The Reds knocked Faithfold off top spot last weekend following the thrilling 4-2 victory over Brixton, but manager David Garbacz is expecting a much tighter affair this Sunday.
Greg Corin popped up with another two goals to cap another exhilarating display. I’d be hard-pressed to name this season’s JC MSFL Player of the Year but expect the wing wizard to be in the mix once again. Ben Kon and summer signing Jacob Gold were Hendon’s other scorers.
Although Garbacz told me that nothing will be won or lost on Sunday in terms of silverware, he knows just how important three points will be to Hendon fans.
Garbacz told JC Sport: “We go into Sunday’s potential title decider with bags of confidence and are raring to go. The boys will need to be mentally as well as physically prepared for this match as there will be a tendency as the week goes on to look at the weather and assume the game might be off but we are all hoping that we go ahead.
“There is no temptation to try to move to a 3G pitch as our home form at Hadley has been impressive this year and we are not willing to give up that advantage for a match of this importance.
“There is no doubt that Faithfold are a huge force to be reckoned with this year and credit must go to Zuriel and his team for producing such a strong squad.
“We have our own game-plan in mind to try to nullify their main strengths, especially up front, and whilst I expect a tight match I do think we will see lots of expansive football being played by both teams with goals on the agenda.
“We are not quite as secure at the back this year as last, but we are making up for that with a more expansive style going forward. Our main ball players like Greg Corin Dovid Korman and Yoav Kestenbaum are all in cracking form and we will be looking to them to provide the magic for a vital win.
“Nothing is won or lost in January but there is no doubt that the winner of this game will become strong favourites for the title. Fasten your seat belts – this could be a cracker.”
Faithfold warmed-up for the big match with an impressive 2-1 victory over Apoel in the London FA Sunday FA Intermediate Cup. They are still involved in all four competitions they entered at the beginning of the season and have made big strides this season.
Midfield general Alex Kaye and Daryl Phillips sent the Superhoops into round four of the LFASIC in a game where the reborn Sam Reeves was one of the star performers.
Faithfold boss Zuriel Solomon will be looking to his experienced players to help take the game to Hendon on Sunday.
He told JC Sport: “Hendon have found some good form and have been on a good run of late so Sunday should be an exciting game.
“We played in the LFA Cup last week and put in a good performance albeit we were without Jonny Haik, Paul Babai, Alex Taylor, Simon Lawrence, Rocky, Benjy, James Frener and Paul Savitz, but we have a big squad and the boys who came in were great.
“For us this is another game in the run up to May and every game is big, whether you are playing Hendon or opposition from a lower league. So we will be up for it as will they.
“We know they are a good team and haven’t taken our position in the league for granted because the season is long.”
As long as the weather holds, this should be an absolute cracker.
JC team news: Faithfold have a full squad this week apart from James Frener, Paul Savitz, Simon Lawrence and long-term travellers Rocky Spitzer and Joe Cohen.
For Hendon, Josh Lipman is doubtful with a badly sprained wrist . Jacob Gold is back to full fitness but Alex Gilbert is still out.

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A vs LONDON MACCABI LIONS A
“We have a difficult job on our hands.” Those were the words of Lions manager Andy Landesberg ahead of the long trip to Redbridge.
The Lions climbed two places last Sunday after mounting a monumental comeback against FC Team in a Lee Cash-inspired performance. The former Neasden predator put in his best performance in many a year, scoring all four goals in a 4-3 win.
There was also another excellent performance from the evergreen Aviel Schwarz in the middle of the park. The boy is still a class act and his efforts ensured Lions fans saw the best of the industrious Matt Perlman who is fast becoming a fans favourite.
But the Lions face a real test against a wounded RJC on Sunday. As Landesberg told JC Sport: “With six University Boys returning back up north, and James Gershfield tied up with Maccabiah duties, we have a very difficult job on our hands to make up for the loss of seven players.
“In saying that, we will as always produce a decent squad for a very tough match away to Redbridge. Hopefully we would have learnt a little bit over the last six-eight weeks and not start performing when we are already two goals down.
“Thankfully Max Shields is back in goal and I can hang my gloves up this week!
“Redbridge are a quality side and we will have our work cut out. The weather is not looking to hopeful though.”
Redbridge boss Eilon Kennet was involved in a colourful post-match exchange with Norstar no. 2 Jamie Slavin this week. But his focus will be on the big match against his former club in a game he will not want to lose.
Kennet would’ve been impressed by the job Landesberg and Gershfield are doing at Rowley Lane but I’m sure he would’ve done his homework on some of the new names on the Lions teamsheet.
The east Londoners go into the game on the back of a hard-earned 2-1 win over Norstar which came courtesy of strikes from Steve Summers and top-scorer Adam Stolerman. Indeed, Stolerman’s regulars supply of goals have proved vitally important and he will be keen to impress against a club he knows well.
It was Stolerman (2) and Ben Graham who inspired RJC to a 3-1 win over Lions at the Lane in November and if they play their cards right, I can see them wrapping up a notable league double in what promises to be a top-quality affair.

FAITHFOLD B vs CAMDEN PARK
Camden Park showed off their promotion credentials with an impressive victory over an in-form Temple Fortune last weekend.
A controversial affair was decided by strikes from Rob Hershkorn and fox-in-the-box Richard Silver.
With games in hand on the top two, Camden will be confident of completing a league double over a Faithfold B team they thumped 4-1 earlier in the season. Hershkorn and Silver were on target in that game as well, with David Kanzen adding two more.
Faithfold are improved since then, but I still expect Camden to come away with maximum points.
Looking ahead to the game, Camden boss Josh Marks told JC Sport: “Last week was a solid performance from the boys and now that we’ve had some time to regain fitness since the break I’m hoping for further improvements come this Sunday.
“It will be a very different game coming from our perfect 3G pitch in Wembley to the sloshing ground of Chase Lodge, but we are prepared for what might not be the most glamorous game.
“The table is looking better as we closed the gap last week and if we can a gain a further three points this week then I feel as though our title hopes are back on track.
“Confidence is high – I’m sure Faithfold reckon their chances of causing an upset. Frankly if they do, I’ll be very upset.”
Faithfold have struggled against the top teams but the conditions could be something of a leveller on Sunday. A rock, hard bumpy pitch could prevent Camden’s talented ball players from stamping their authority but it could be the day for an ugly smash and grab.

GLENTHORNE UNITED A vs SHIRLEY PARK
Leaders Shirley Park travel to nearest rivals Glenthorne with revenge well and truly on their minds.
The east Londoners condemned Shirley to their heaviest defeat of the season in August when Craig Sanford (2), James Rubin, Josh Wynne and James Law earned Glenthorne a resounding 5-2 victory.
Shirley have won their last three including a thrilling 3-2 win over Hendon B last weekend. Many people wanted to see how they’d cope without star man Nicky Plotnek, but they did just enough with strikers Saul Conway and Jamie Kent, along with player-manager Dave Lusman finding the net.
Glenthorne start the game a point behind Shirley, but they have two games in hand. Last week’s game against UJIA fell victim to the weather so manager Sam Rosenthal hopes that a lack of action over the last few weeks doesn’t come back to bite them.
The Thornes have kept four clean sheets this season but they will do well to keep out a team that has scored for fun over the last couple of seasons. However, Rosenthal would’ve noticed that Shirley leak goals and he will be confident that with a big crowd behind them, his boys can do the business and register what would be their ninth win in 12 games.

SOUTHGATE HARMEN vs HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B
Hendon’s hopes of a top two finish are hanging by a thread following last weekend’s epic against leaders Shirley.
The Reds gave a good account of themselves and were unlucky to come away empty-handed in a game where 18-year-old Gav Krieger was their star man. Pinty Baddiel and Martin Smulovitz were the scorers for Hendon in a 3-2 defeat.
When I caught up with joint-manager Motty Korman earlier this week, I got the impression he was trying to take the pressure of his troops. He told JC Sport: “After a slow start since the break, things are starting to look more positive.
“We have a close to full squad this week, with Tali Nevies back after his wedding last week and we have confirmed the signing of Ben Wilkinson who is versatlile and will add depth to the squad. Martin Smulovitch has joined us on a long-term contract from the A's. Keeper Joseph Corin and Chaim Gothold are finally back too.
“We are hoping that the game will go ahead this week and won’t fall foul of the weather so we can finally kick-start the second half of our season.”
Harmen have made progress this season but they went down 2-0 against Chigwell last Sunday. Manager Dan Uzan will be looking for a big reaction from his players who will be keen to avoid Hendon doing the double over them.
Chaim Gothold and Avi Marcowitz scored the goals that earned Hendon a 2-0 win in the first meeting between the teams this season and even though Harmen have strengthened since then, I’m tipping the tide to turn in Hendon’s favour.

TEMPLE FORTUNE A vs NORTH WEST NEASDEN A
There’s rarely a dull moment where Temple Fortune are concerned. We’ve seen the best and, dare I say, worst of them this season and they will be keen to get their season back on track against Neasden on Sunday.
Lee Fegan’s men went eight games unbeaten but as they say, all good things come to an end and Camden Park had just too much for them last Sunday.
With both teams locked on nine points from nine games played, victory on Sunday would go a long way to easing relegation fears and I believe this will lead to an open and entertaining affair.
Fortune will need no reminding of what happened the first time the teams met this season. Lee Cash, I’m sure you’ve heard of him, fired a hat-trick in a 5-0 demolition, with Zack White completing the rout. Fortune will be relieved to hear that both players have moved on since then and Neasden have struggled to fill the void in terms of a real goal-scoring threat.
Michael Field and David Fox were the marksmen in last weekend’s 3-2 defeat against Woodford and manager Dan Hodes hopes both are able to show their quality in the final third again.
The battle between Fortune’s Shai Davidi and Adam Klein will be key, but I think Fortune will have the legs on an ageing NWN team.

ATHLETIC BILBAUM vs GLENTHORNE UNITED B
Being part of the keeper’s union, I want to start by saying what an important player Simon Roth has been for the Baums this season.
Time and again, he has produced big, at times, match-winning performances that have enabled his team to fly high towards the top of the table.
He produced another fine stop last Sunday against Raiders, the Division Two Save of the Week, but sadly he will be remembered for a rare error that gave L’Orange the momentum to take the game away from Roth and co.
The good news is that Bilbaum’s destiny remains in their own hands. With games in hand on the top two, it’s important they rally behind Roth and close Glenthorne down at every opportunity and give their keeper the protection he deserves.
On Sunday the Baums go to Glenthorne and I think it’s a good time to be playing the east Londoners who have lost their mo-jo. Joint-player-manager Jordan Sapler believes it’s only a matter of time until the Thornes rediscover their winning formula but I don’t think the boys in green and white will be looking to do them any favours.
Sapler told JC Sport: "We need to get a win now. Neasden were fairly fortunate last week against us but we need to stop this slide. We're good enough to just need to show it on the pitch now."
As long as the Baums back line brings its A-game to the table, I think the points will stay in north-west London.
JC team news: Glenthorne have drafted Adam Bernstein and Jamie Bernstein into the squad for the rest of the season. Simon Beigel and Jay Lawrence are still out for the foreseeable.

CATFORD & BROMLEY MACCABI vs NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B
Raiders boss Oli Shorts doesn’t bear grudges but I get the impression he’s not impressed with me after being over-looked for the JC Manager of the Week award following the magnificent win over promotion-chasing Bilbaum. Just saying.
It was a herculean performance from L’Orange, a day when ever Raider performed. There was a great maturity about the way in which Toby Katz performed in his holding midfield role to perfection.
Katz was not the only star for Raiders though. Dan Rosenberg, Darren Russell and super Si Buchler were also on top of their game in a performance that left Shorts purring.
I expect the Raiders gaffer to tell his team to go for the jugular from the first whistle on Sunday. He told JC Sport: “We hope the game is called off as it's going to be freezing. In the unlikely event of the game going ahead then it'll be all guns blazing from the boys.
“Four wins from five is great form and all we need to do is keep the run going. We have a few injuries, most notably Jonny Blain, but we welcome back Shaps and Ben Hart is slowly returning to match fitness.
“Catford have sprung a few surprises this season, most notably against SPEC, so we know that we must be at our best.”
The absence of Blain will be music to the ears of Catford captain Adam Luria. He will be looking for a big reaction from his players who are still recovering from the famous Lester Jacobs hairdryer. The players were left in no uncertain terms that last weekend’s performance against FC Team B was unacceptable.
Looking ahead to the game, Luria told JC Sport: "We've got pretty much our strongest squad of the season this week. Last week was apparently a complete shambles but fortunately I wasn't there to experience it. If we're going to stay up our season has to start here and we've got some extremely important games coming up.
"Knowing our luck, the first week in months we haven't had to scramble around for a bare 11 will be postponed because of snow."
The Cats are in big trouble now and it will take something special to stop Raiders on Sunday.
JC team news: For Catford, Ashley Stokes is back after a month out, Joel Isaacs returned last week and so should be closer to match fitness.

LOS BLANCOS vs SPEC FC
With their cup hopes over for another season, SPEC FC hope their luck returns for the promotion tussle against Los Blancos. Whoever loses can bid farewell to any lingering hopes of automatic promotion.
Laurence Conway’s men bowed out of the Anekstein following a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Premier Division giants Oakwood. They were left in no uncertain terms as to how far they still have to go in their bid to reach the big time, but it definitely left them with food for thought.
SPEC FC’s Ricky Lawrence told JC Sport: “After a spirited and slightly unfortunate loss last week in the cup, we can now solely focus on the league.
“After dropping silly points early in the season we know only three points will do and Los Blancos being a promotion rival will be the perfect place to do it.”
The teams are locked on 22 points from 12 matches and it sees Blancos also looking to get their season back on track following a hefty defeat at the hands of leaders Brady B.
Up until last Sunday, Blancos’ home form had been excellent and manager Adam Hersh is determined to put a smile back on the face of Blancos fans.
He told JC Sport: “We want to get back to winning days after our last games annihilation and get our promotion push back on track.”
Blancos have been free-scoring at home, but they will come up against a resolute SPEC FC defence on Sunday and a keeper in top form in Mike Mirrelman.
I think Sunday’s game will come down to small details think SPEC will make themselves hard to beat.
JC team news: Blancos are missing centre back Aryeh Marks but are otherwise at full-strength.

NORSTAR B vs BRADY MACCABI B
I fear for Norstar on Sunday. I’ve heard talk that manager David Lubczanski will attempt to park the bus in front of goal but not even XI snowmen on the goalline will be enough to stop a free-scoring Brady B in this top against bottom clash.
There will be a big gulf in class evident from the first whistle on Sunday as Josh Dagul’s men go in search of their ninth league win of the season.
Blizzard Storm were Brady’s latest victims. They held their own for three quarters of the match, but they just couldn’t hold out. It finished 5-1 in the end with Dan Hildebrand (2), Jason Davis, Daniel Harrod and Reiss Mogilner doing the damage.
Mogilner has been on an excellent goal-scoring run and there was good news for Brady fans this week when Dagul revealed he is “99 per cent certain” that the youngster will sign a new three-and-a-half year deal with the Rowley Lane club.
The thing about Brady, though, is that are far from a one-man team. They have so many strings to their bow – the names just roll off the tongue. Harrod, Hildebrand and Joseph, and they have many more talented players coming through the ranks.
It’s been a tough first season so far for Norstar B and the signs are it will be a long 90 minutes for them on Sunday. And the bad news is they have to play them again in the coming weeks so damage limitation could be the name of the game here.

NORTH WEST NEASDEN B vs BLIZZARD STORM
With Brady B odds-on to win, Neasden B can ill-afford any slips-up against the aptly named Blizzard.
Adam Levene’s men put in a typically resolute display to edge past Glenthorne B last weekend and another determined effort will be needed against a resolute Blizzard team.
Simon Linden’s men gave a good account of themselves against Brady last weekend, but they ran out of legs in the closing stages and were eventually over-run 5-1.

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B vs FC TEAM B
FC Team B were six-hitters last weekend and they will be looking to add to Redbridge B’s woes on Sunday.
By my calculations, another couple of wins would make Ben Simon’s men safe and they will arrive in east London confident of registering their fifth win of the season.
Freddie Marks was the star of the show against Catford last weekend. He smashed a brilliant four-goal salvo, while Daniel Woolfe chipped in with a brace.
Looking ahead to Sunday, FC Team’s David Gordon told JC Sport: “We will be looking to carry on our recent form which has seen us win back to back league games for only the second time this season.
“We're still at the wrong end of the table and we want a few more wins to push ourselves into the top four or five, because that's where we believe we should be at the very least.
“Our main hope is that the game actually goes ahead as this fixture has been postponed twice already and we don't want to be playing double headers come April/May!”
RJC boss Jon Jacobs can’t wait for the transfer window to close. He’s trying desperately hard to keep hold of star striker Daniel Gordon, a player whose goals are assisting their battle against the drop.
A young RJC team have found the going tough overall and it would surprise me if the visitors didn’t come away with maximum points.
JC team news: FC Team have Paul Walker, Mitch Lassman, Jon Fisher, Emile Ben-Atar, Adam Newsome and Darren Freed returning to the squad for the weekend, but Lee and Adam Goldsmith are both unavailable.

OAKWOOD B vs L’EQUIPE
Oakwood B player-manager Ian Tussie is the favourite to win my JC MSFL Dave Snellman Character of the Year award and the Oaks chief had them rolling around in the aisle’s at the FA’s 150th gala anniversary the other day.
I bumped into him over a shandy at the Connaught Rooms in Holborn and he was on top form when asked for his thoughts about Sunday’s grudge match against L’Equipe. So without further ado, I’ll hand over to Tussie.
“Sunday is a spicy game, it's a lamb madras of a derby against our rivals L'Equipe. They're on a great run and it's no surprise given the quality of some of their players.
“We've had ours differences in the past, notably in the summer. It's well documented that we made an offer to one of their players and we were led to believe it was all done and dusted with the club happy to move him on.
“However, the player made some exorbitant demands at the 11th hour and the deal crumbled. I'm led to believe the player in question isn't playing on Sunday. I'm sure our fans would have given him the most hostile of receptions. The "Mon£y grabb£r" and "gold digg£r" signs can be left until the away game later this season.
“We are excited for Sunday though and know it'll be tough especially given the form they're in but we've got a strong squad available and have the luxury of being able to leave some players at home.
“Long-term absentee Tim Glass is still out but we are hoping to have him back within the next month. Dave Epstein is AWOL following a severe bust up with management staff over the Chanukah break. There’ll be no hiding place for Norstar C on Sunday as high-flying Mill Hill go in search of their 10th win of the season.
Joe Levy’s men go into Sunday’s game with a three point lead at the summit and with a full-strength squad at his disposal, the Mill Hill gaffer hopes to “kick off 2013 in style”.
Ben Zloof has been their main man in terms of goals, but they are a class act from front to back.
It was Zloof and Levy who filled their boots when the teams last met in September – Zloof went home with the match ball after hitting four of the best.
But the Stars have claimed three wins since that 6-0 defeat and will be looking forward to see exactly how far they have come.
Manager Zack Gothelf told JC Sport: “The first competitive game Norstar C played resulted in a 6-0 hammering against AC Mill Hill. Going in to Sunday, provided the game goes ahead, which is looking increasingly unlikely, we'll be looking to the game as a real test of where we've come since that first game.
“We're missing a few players for various reasons, but I'm very happy with our whole squad, and it's another opportunity for game time and the chance to impress.
“We're looking forward to getting back into playing and are keen to get more points on the board.”
When push comes to shove I think only the snow will stop Mill Hill on Sunday.

With three games in hand on leaders AC Mill Hill, the Team are relishing their first meeting against the league’s bottom team.

I’m expecting a hatful of goals in Sunday’s meeting between Hendon C and Fortune B, especially with the Hustlers’ ‘every child gets a mug of chicken soup’ policy.
There was disappointment for the Hendon boys against Loughton last weekend and manager Craig Miller will be determined to put things right.
Fortune have lost their last two, but it appears they just need an adjustment here and there to turn things around.
The goals have dried up but they should get a fair few chances on Sunday in a game I think will be won and lost in midfield.
It’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
