A solitary strike from Greg Corin steered cup holders Hendon at the expense of Premier Division rivals Woodford.
It was an effort worthy of winning any game, with Hendon boss David Garbacz describing it as "one of the best team goals you are likely to see at this level". It started off with keeper Russ Corin and switching left then right before ending off with a typical Corin finish into the back of the net.
Hendon boss David Garbacz told JC Sport: "Do not be fooled by the 1-0 scoreline - we must have had 25 attempts on goal at least and if we didn't completely leave our shooting boots at home, the score would have been far more emphatic.
"Whilst the game remained 1-0 Woodford were always in it and they did show good spirit, but overall we were very pleased with our performance level today even though we should have scored more.
"We were heavily depleted today and only had 11 players available, but we have good strength in depth and we are still nicely placed in all competitions.
"We have a big December ahead of us - crucial league and cup games but the aim is to get players back and take each game as they come and when 2015 comes around we want to be able to say the treble treble is still on.
"Finally I would like to mention lifelong Hendon fan and good friend Nick Slater who asks me week in week out to mention him so Nick this is for you - cheers for the support mate."
After the tie, Woodford released the following statement regarding boss Tony Charles.
"It is with regret that I have to tender my resignation as manager of Woodford Wanderers. Due to an increasing workload which has resulted to coaching six days a week, i am unable to give adequate time and attention to woodford, but more importantly to my daughter, and at this stage my daughter needs me more.
"I was only ever supposed to take woodford on for one season with the clear objective of getting them promoted."
Chairman Alex Aviram responded: "I would like to go on record and personally thank Tony for all his hard work over the past season and a half. Achieving promotion as champions with a group of peanut heads was a miracle, however results this year haven't been good enough and accepting Tony's resignation is the right move for this club.
"I intend to give the people what they want and will be looking overseas to bring in a manager who will make us play tika-taka football. We are also taking steps to find a new club chef as our dip of form has been down to bad chicken soup."
Club secretary Martin Sales commented: "With immediate affect assistant first team coach Mitch Hahn will be caretaker-manager until we find a suitable replacement for the reminder of the season. Scouts have been sent to Israel, India and China. However if anyone local fancies managing a bunch of misfits please send your cv to the club."
